Is it possible to switch web host?

Hey folks,

I recently registered a domain at Namecheap and changed the nameserver so that it would point to my newly created Hostgator account.

I've gotten mixed reviews and opinions regarding Hostgator's hosting service, some people have some great experiences with Gator while others wouldn't even go near them.

Anyway, I guess I fell victim to their low prices and sale just before New Year's and signed up.

My question is this though:

Can I switch/change hosting service if I'm not satisfied, even though I've created a website and started getting visitors? I mean, I have my domain registered at Namecheap so it shouldn't be that much of a problem, right?

I just want to know if it's possible and if it will hurt my domain/traffic. I guess I want all my exits covered!

Thanks,

Karl

Hi, yes, you can easily change the DNS Settings of your domain. Keep in mind that the changes might take some time - depending on the ISP etc. So you can plan a time gap of up to 24 hours. Most of the time - especially with US providers - it is working very fast (within minutes).

It's easy to swich web host. If you are using WordPress, you can find a lot of people on Fiverr you will solve your issue for $5.
But why do you think, you are a victim?
Thousands of marketers from this forum are using HostGator, and they are happy with it. I don't think, you need to panic.
    Everything is OK.
But I'm not here to promote HostGator.
The answer to your question is YES, you can swtich to another web hosting company without any impact.
But if you have never done it before, it might seem complicated. In reality, it's fairly easy.

Unless you are having a problem at hostgator, I would stay with them.

If you decide to change hosts, you and get your new site completely set up and functional before changing nameservers. Once it is set up at the new host, when you change the nameserver it doesn't really matter how long it takes for the change to propagate.

Yes you can, but before that
    make sure
    1. you backed up your site wordpress or otherwise
    2. don't cancel first hosting account at least for 48hrs after shifting to new host so that you don't lose visitors
    3. As others told Hostagrator may not be bad host for you

    Good luck

I had a lot of sites moved. The company I moved to did the whole thing for me and it was absolutely perfect and painless. Every script moved was in perfect condition.

That's something to ask potential new hosts - if they will do it for you. There was no charge for the service either.

I know HG and several other EIG hosting companies are regularly bashed here - but many of us have used HG for years and still have no problem with it. We don't start threads saying "I don't have a problem...."

If YOU change your mind - have a problem...of course you can change. Now if you are asking "can I change my mind and get a refund" - I have no idea about that.

It seems your concern if about what other people say. Would you avoid using adsense or paypal because other people have problems with it?

If you second guess every decision you make - you won't get far. Best thing to do is research before you sign up with a site or service - then trust your own judgment unless or until there's a problem.

EDIT: This is the SAME question you are asking in the thread you started asking about hosts:

You are getting bogged down in opinions and second guessing. If you got the usual great HG deal they offer for the holidays - stay with it unless you have a REAL problem. You are creating stress for yourself and that's not a good idea.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

You can either have your new web host do all the leg work for you or simply transfer your website yourself and update your domain DNS setting once complete.

If you choose to have your new web host do this do you make sure you speak with them before hand to ensure they are happy to complete for you.

You can move your site's hosting at anytime.

Hostgator has the worst customer service I have ever experienced in the last 10 years.

Some people say they have no problems. Well wait till they do.

    This guy thinks hostgator sucks.
