Yoast is good for the SEO.

A good security plugin IMO is all in one wp security. This is more important to address than the spam IMO.

Spam free wordpress has been a good plugin for me as well. But there are some new alternatives out there.

I personally using Yoast as SEO plugin and Askimet as a Anti- Spam plugin. Both works great for me.

It is *NOT* illegal because it is 100% GPL licensed. You may want to have a look at the GPL before you are stating that something is illegal: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_...Public_License

No, not illegal. Allowed under GNU/GPL.

Many people do not realize that all WP Themes and Plugins are under GNU/GPL license. You agree to these terms when you develop on the Wordpress platform.

It is still a good idea to pay for premium themes and plugins so you can get updates and support. Many themes and plugins break when the Wordpress platform updates.

As for OP, Askimet and Yoast are both good and seem to be recommended by most replies here.

Although this is a side topic: Not all WordPress Themes and Plugins are necessarily GPL-licensed. They can also do a split-license like Themeforest does for example).

Yeah, one of the best combinations. I believe All-In-One plugin is more user friendly and does much more than YOAST. Moreover, All-in-One is so easy to use and include metatags etc. info into posts.

Just have a few more questions. Is the $9 bucks a month good enough when buying the akismet plugin?

Second - I recently heard of something called "curated content" plugin(s). Anyone know what that is and where that is? I guess it feeds in tons of quality articles automatically published to ones site(s).
