One of the biggest myths that I see is about the number of visitors that you need before you can decide between Version A or Version B.

The Nielsen rating uses about 5000 households to represent over 101 million households and companies trust is so much that they vote with their advertising dollars.

There are many times when less than 12 visitors will prove with a 95% confidence level which version will convert the best. But that goes against everyday wisdom and it is dismissed. Then there are times when over 90,000 visitors will not give you a clear picture on which way to go.

One of the business procedures that I use involves getting the testing done as fast and as cheaply as possible with results that I can live with.
