Now I have a problem with Amazon (Affiliate Account Closed)

It's been almost 6 months that I stopped promoting Amazon products and concentrated on Adsense. I removed all Amazon ads on my websites more than 6 months ago.

Several months ago, I received a printed IRS Form W-8 through mail, but since I was not promoting Amazon products anymore, I did not review the document. I haven't log-in to my Amazon Affiliate account for a long time until today.

And there you go. It says:

"Account Closed
This account is closed and will not generate referrals. Access to this site is for historical purposes only."

I immediately checked all of my mail boxes for Amazon email but I received nothing. Only an email from kindle telling me that payment (as seller) has been sent to my payooner account.

I couldn't really imagine why my account was suspended until I clicked my profile. It immediately gave me tax interview questions (which I just completed and submitted).

I couldn't find that document from Amazon anymore. I strongly believe that Amazon disabled my account because I failed to submit the IRS Form W-8.

After answering the interview, I sent a support ticket asking to re-activate my account. I don't know what will happen, but I think my mistake is not so serious that worth deactivating my account?

Anyone has experienced the same problem?

I just discovered a solid idea about a new Amazon affiliate site and this idea will be thrown away if I can't have my Amazon account back......

you should probably go to the amazon associates forum and talk about this. The link is in your affiliate dashboard.

      This. ^^^.

My guess is that not having the tax information on file generated an automatic disabling of your account due to legal requirements. If so, you'll probably get your account back.

Either way, I'd check the associate forum, and maybe contact associate support directly in case there are other issues.

Edit: Embarrassing admission time . I just got off a live chat with an Amazon Associates support rep. After seeing this thread, I went to make sure I had complied with everything, and found the "account closed" notice. After chatting with Sheryl S. (nice person), I learned that the deadline to make the COPPA declaration was November 1, 2015. Any account failing to comply was automatically closed, and I had let the deadline slip through the cracks. I was also informed that a clause in the law prohibited Amazon from re-opening accounts closed for this reason.

The bright spot is that I was invited to reapply, and I would be given a new associate ID. I'm guessing that this applies to anyone else who was in good standing when caught missing the deadline.

Well, I am relieved after receiving a response from Amazon inviting me to re-apply... The following is Amazon's response that might be useful to other Warriors..

        +++++++++++++

Thank you for contacting the Amazon Associates Team. Your Associates account was closed on November 1, 2015 as previously outlined both online and in email communications. This closure-action occurred because the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) declaration was not completed by October 31st, 2015. The declaration is mandatory for participation in the Amazon Associates Program as set forth by the FTC.

Unfortunately, we are unable to reinstate your Associates account ID: msb0c-20. However you're more than welcome to re-apply to the program. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this has causes.

Hmmm... did you verify that your websites were compliant with COPPA - the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act?

A friend of mine hadn't logged in to her affiliate account for a few months and recently discovered that her affiliate account had been closed because she failed to verify that her sites didn't violate COPPA.

    This might be the reason.

I'm glad Amazon doesn't close accounts for no reason. In my experience Amazon is fair, but people many times don't do due diligence and are so surprised when consequences emerge...
