World Internet Summit: Pitchfest or worth my time?

It'll be here in Atlanta for four days... is it worth my time to go to this event? I'm hearing both that the founder is a good guy and that it's a pitch-fest (and so far, the materials I've received and reviewed point toward the latter).

Any ideas?

    Dave,

I have never been to one of these events. A colleague of mine did. He has some experience in IM and said he did not hear anything earth shattering over the 4 days that he hadn't heard before.

He also said that be prepared to be sold too.

What he did say was a positive was the chance to mix with other IM'ers particulary more experienced and successful ones than he.

If you are strong enough to resist the hard sells at the conclusion, he said it was an enjoyable experience.

Once again, I have never been to one. I am relaying what a friend who did go, said

You can check more detail about the speakers background before you make any decision. Those events are good for new comers but not really for experienced marketers.

As Craig say, it's good to go there and meet the more experieced marketers than you. May be you can get some friends to become your business partners in future.

I think the summit is only good for someone who is new in Internet Marketing.

    Hi

I have no experience with this particular event... However many like you say are pitch fests

Me personally I go to events to meet people and network...

Many times I confess I actually dont even enter the seminar lol

But I got to be honest, a LOT of valuable friendships and a LOT of business has been learned in the bar

Ya... if there's one thing I know to be ready for, it's DEFINITELY the hard sell from hell from these things. One of their "bonuses" requires that you attend the seminar all four days!

I'm newly reintroduced to the internet marketing field... I was kinda active back in the day and there are a lot of new toys to play with and a lot of new information out there. Is there going to be enough "meat on the bone" that'll make it worth fending off the sales pitches?

      I have attended WIS before..

and like Dean states, it is a pitch fest.. but you go to network and meet other like minded people..

Saying that.. if your coming in from scratch knowing nothing about IM then you would probably learn some good stuff..

However.. if your a little more experienced then you may not learn much at all..

Both a pitch fest and worth your time, in my opinion. The networking worth it.

YES - you should DEFINITELY go

    Here's why

    1. Pitch-fest or not...Offline events are where you'll find the
BEST networking opportunities (I just made an additional $1,000
because I swung by a seminar for a few hours last weekend) and it
    was all because of networking

    2. While people will pitch...they also give GREAT content. I've been
to a ton of offline events and I've never NOT learned something new

    3. I'm the M.C. - So it's bound to be tons of fun - LOL

Most of the smart guys I know like to watch the pitch more then the content being delivered before the pitch!

Precisely. If you're in the business of marketing and selling, what's better for you than watching other people market and sell?!

Like Dan said, the networking power is crazy.

If you've never been to a seminar before, marketers do their presentations then do a pitch at the end. How else could you get good marketers to come speak at your event on their own dime? Of course they're going to try to sell you something. That's what marketers do. If you're smart, you take more notes during the pitches than the actual presentations.

I went last year in Toronto...

Total pitchfest. It is GREAT for motivation and some networks (I think if you have some IM under your belt, you would be more experience then most there).

Also the fact it is rare still to find local in person Internet Marketing Events, so it is great to be in that environment.

Haha... yeah, Devon straight breaks it down at seminars here in Atlanta... and gets the crowd to break it down too.

Im going to be completely honest here and give my thoughts.

Ive learnt more here at Warrior Forum, than I ever have by attending WIS. I went to WIS here on the Gold Coast this year. I know many of the speakers and have met them personally. Is it a sales fest? Absolutely. No joke, its all sizzle and no steak. Its a massive pitch fest, for internet dummies, who are easily excited about PPC and other marketing rubbish that over a period of four days becomes monotonous. Its all driven by fancy powerpoint presentations, slick slideshows, earning screenshots and numerous "Its easy, anyone can make millions" one liners.

Ive always found the networking outside the event to be more beneficial than inside -- as in standing around chatting with others during the break.

Is it worth it - maybe for some.

    Would I go again? No.

I thought you were Tamara, but after reading your sig, I KNOW you have to be Ralph or Dave haha... Ralph would say something like that, but you're SpankD, so I'm guessing Dave.

Don't know if I'm goin' yet. But if I do... this time I'm bringing swimming trunks, a few cigars, and a few bottles of Merlot.

I have been to four World Internet Summits. I learn something different every year. I leave my credit card at home so as not to be tempted.

I decide after the Summit if I am interested in buying in to anything. I have had my photo taken with most of the gurus (my photo here is with Armand Morin). Now that does something for credibility, doesn't it?

I go to make valuable connections and see what the latest and greatest things are. I like to keep my finger on the pulse of what's happening in IM. Having said that, really I could do without going.

Plus it is always nice to get in the draw for a nice big fat cheque for $30,000!!! That would pay a few bills. Just forget about the "pitch fest" part and go there to learn and make connections. You'll be glad you did.

Don't go if you're expecting to hear the best content ever. But like everyone else has said, it's a great opportunity to meet people. Just don't get caught up in all the hype when people sell stuff.

I couldn't get over how much money people were spending on stuff when I was there. People were falling over each other to get to the back of the room. Definitely an eye opener.

I attended one of these a couple of years ago and you really have got to be prepared to be pitched at.

There's no doubt that the speakers are right out of the top drawer but each and every one of them is there to promote their product to a very focussed and hungry crowd.

These events are great for IM novices and they are the ones who are likely to walk away from the event with another 3 or 4 products. Those marketers with a bit more experience will probably know when to keep their credit card in their wallet.

I won't attend another as the information is aimed (out of necessity) at the less experienced IMs or complete novices. You get a heck of alot more by reading through this site.

    Regards.

    Steve.

Also remember you will pay a premium since you are buying it in person.

Here is another angle - Last time I went, I was super focus into the things I do online (traffic, seo and so on), however it opened my idea to others I don't do (like backend sales formula. memebership sites). So it can open your eyes to other things.

Looks like I should go to this and keep my eyes open and my wallet shut!!! :^)

Thanks, everyone - I tried to find a "thank" button to give y'all some "thanks" stats, but I was unable to do so. Any pointers?

So Dave, Did you go? I was there with some folks and it was pretty good. Mostly for meeting people but there were some gems among the presenters too. The best part though was watching the pitch from the stage--all the different styles and strategies. Definitely took a few notes for future use.

I was at the WIS,Atlanta recently and of course Devon Brown was as usual the best MC ever.

You wouldn't want to miss an opportunity to network with people and meet up with some of the top names in the IM sphere and ask for some real solid help.

If you haven't been to one, go and experience it. The pitch fest is fun to watch though. Haha. I love it.
