Keeping up to date - press releases from the otherside?

I know that as a rule a lot of us are looking for press release sites to submit releases to so as to build backlinks and drive traffic (in which case check out Dana W's blog http://www.thepressreleasesite.com/ for tips)

But I am looking from the otherside now. As bloggers it can be difficult to keep up to date with the news, especially in certain niches. What I am looking for is a worthwhile press release site to help me keep track of the news

For example 2 of my main niches (I'm revealing them!) are in a very specific subsection of gaming (think MMO games sort of line) and most recently a UK sport (rugby)

Now I know a 'competitior' in rugby is on some sort of press release round/site/emails ot something as he regularly mentions getting press releases about them.

BUT the free sites I know don't have the worthwhile press releases, they have the spammy ones (e.g in sport telling us about a new forum on a sports nutritional sites, not a release about how the main team has changed sponsors/signed a prop/hired a new coach etc).

So how do you guys keep in contact? How do you find the right places to sign up to RECIEVE press releases from for proper news (which seems to be very different to where we submit them to)
