Are there any UK Internet Marketing GURU's?

Hi there I've been looking into Interent Marketing for the past 8 months and have noticed that the hub of most new Internet Marketing theories and breakthroughs all seem to be from GURU's in the USA. I've only really heard of one or two UK marketers that seem to be big in the states.

Can any warriors add to my knowledge of UK Guru's namely in the following ares:

1. SqueezePage/Lead Generation
2. Salesletter/Copywriting
3. Back End Sales (One time offers, cross selling, upselling theories)
4. Information Product Business models.

Thanks in Advance

Adam

p.s. so far I know of just 3 UK based IM's namely:

Dan Raine (Immediate Edge fame)
Dave Wilkinson (Affiliate Defined fame)
Lee McIntyre (Fellow Manc! Aim Higher Marketing fame)

Tony Shepherd offers good advice on general IM. John Thornhill's another one, he does a lot on eBay information products but his stuff incorporates cross selling too.

Good point Ken. My brother introduced me to a UK guy that just sold a very popular free forum for 8 figure sum (made a fortune from advertising on it though). He uses an alias until he knows people. He has no intention of 'coming out' ever!

I would definitely say Lee Mcintyre is one of the UK's most promising up and coming experts on Internet Marketing. His income has grown massively over 2 years and it is all based on selling information.

He makes a bucket load of content, draws on his experience as a teacher to communicate effectively and really seems to love what he is doing. He runs an ethical and professional business and his is one of the only emails I will open from a marketer.

Andrew Reynolds is a well know and successful direct marketer. I believe he's on the princes trust local business board. Now is he good for you? That's a different question as I don't know you and what you're good at! He's more direct marketer thank inernet marketer so you'll need some working capital to follow his teachings.

Hmm! I appreciate this is not directly aposite to this thread but given the two latest entries today I'm hoping someone knows the answer. Does anyone know what has happened to all Lee McIntyre's sites? I subscribed a couple of months ago to his GetMoreMomentum.com and now find that all the links (including the all important support link) are broken - even his top level names like AimHigherMarketing.com are not being found. This seems strange as his domains have not expired (via Whois) so I'm a bit perplexed. Anyone have any clues?

      Hi Bob

We've had a bit of a hosting snafu and all our sites are down. Clearly it's my fault for promising myself a "relaxing" few days before my Manchester workshop on Friday

We're working on it right now, we're VERY sorry, and we hope to have normal service resumed in a few hours (fingers crossed).

I'm even having to work during lunch rather than head to Wetherspoons for a beer and a burger... this is not good... not good at all!!

Thanks for the spot and please stick with us while we get this squared away.

  • There are loads of gurus in the UK. The reason you don't hear so much of them is sheer weight of numbers. The UK is a tiny country on the worldwide scale, so most gurus you hear about are likely to be overseas. And, because of the English speaking requirement, you're most likely to hear about gurus based in North America.

Just imagine that you've only heard of a fraction of 1% of North American gurus (especially outside the IM niche), then apply that figure to the UK. It's no wonder that there aren't so many well known gurus around.

Guru is just a marketing term. It means absolutely nothing in my opinion and I am tired of people asking for gurus who really are just artists of their trade which is pitching products to those desperate to succeed in IM. I do know there are plenty of UK guys on here, though, and doing well in IM.

Well said redicelander Too many people are calling them selves Gurus and forcing them selves into the business opportunity market as experts. When you do a bit of research on them, you find them just spouting old get rich quick messages in tacky videos saying they earn thousands a month.

As far as i'm concerned, using a PC to generate an income should be possible for anyone interested in learning how to do it without these so called guru's promising the world and easy cash.

When you want to learn a trade like plumbing ect', you don't expect to read training material promising instant wealth. You wouldn't expect your teacher to try and sell you his own high priced training as well. Learning from a guru should be a safe haven. If these people are gurus, why do they exploit the people they are supposed to be teaching by just putting their students into their own sales funnels to try and sell to them high priced back end products?

I don't believe people with real Guru status should do this.

Sure, you learn how to do this sort of thing in your chosen markets but not by the people who are supposed to be teaching you.

In my opinion, this is why our business has such a bad reputation and is normally associated with the get rich quick crowd.

      Regards
      Martin

        Hi Martin,

        You make some great points.

Wherever there are people seeking guidance, you will find those who don the garb of the guide, yet they are only interested in themselves. It's the first lesson for those seeking guidance - you may seek knowledge, but you must first build yourself a base foundation of knowledge and wisdom and develop your intuition in order to discard the majority of information which is misleading, so that you can recognise and utilise worthwhile information.

You can use guides, but you must hang onto your steering wheel with both hands and decide and stick to your own course.

If you look around, you will see the folly of many who decide to clone these charlatans - thus exacerbating the problem you refer to here -

this is why our business has such a bad reputation and is normally associated with the get rich quick crowd.
It is relatively easy for the charlatan to gain further exposure by making false promises - IE future JVs, commissions, guidance, exposure and a host of other baits. They would appear to be in the ascendancy.

But on the contrary, those who differentiate stand out like a sore thumb. The truth is the greatest bait you can lay. If everyone were to automatically stumble upon those who are genuine offering the kind of information they need - there would be no need for them to improve their thought processes and develop their own intuition.

Those who mislead actually do others a service, as they help to accelerate the learning process of newcomers, thus preparing them to make the most of legitimate opportunities when they eventually find them.

The word guru has too many negative connotations, but there are a lot of Internet marketing experts from the UK who are very happy to share their knowledge.

My latest ebook, One Tip... contains articles from 25 experts and a lot of them are from the UK. It is sold entirely for charity - 100% of the proceeds (after PayPal's fees) goes directly to my Rotary Club's Annual Appeal.

If you want top advice from real, professional Internet marketing experts from the UK and all round the world, then please buy One Tip... and help support a really worthwhile cause.

Take a look at the sales page (see my sig) and you'll be sure to recognize many of the experts who have donated their time and efforts freely.

I know what you mean - I have been flitting from one to the other without really starting any - I'm too busy with my SEO business to work on my IM business - but I'm here now!

It always surprises me how many people that others here recommend - I've never heard of.

I do get out and meet people (honest!) and there are still so many in the UK I haven't heard of that appear to be doing ok and have followers.

On that list I've only met Martin and Sarah.

Looks like I need to get out more

    Hi,
I am currently on Alex Jeffreys coaching program, I have never had so much good solid information. He really knows his stuff, his mentors were Mike Filsaime, Andrew Fox, so he learned from the masters.I think you need a mentor if you want to suceed.

Rob Benwell has been mentioned a couple of times now - have you met him? is he a marketing guru? All I've ever seen or heard of him was his blogging ebook.
