Hi guys,

if some of you have already tested, I would like to know what works best to sell an infoproduct:

1) A blog + a separate website
2) A website with a blog included

if you can recommend any sites on the subject I am interested.

Thanks in advance
Yarvua

A website including a blog is much better then a blog and a separate website. For perfect example you can see QuickSprout. They do blogging seriously and sells their services a lot.

As they say incessantly here at WF...Test,Test,Test.

But personally, I like the Blog within a Website. Makes it easier for people to get around and convenient.
      Just makes sense

In my opinion a website with a blog is the best because its more convenient.

There are many different ways to market an information product.

Have a sales page, a lead page, and a blog attached to your product page. Constantly test which traffic sources are converting best, which sales pages are converting best, what content you place on your blog, etc.

You should run a few different extensions or subdomains off of your domain.

      Thank you.

I asked you this question because I read on the internet
(several times) that a blog should not be used to sell, but
to redirect visitors to the site containing the sales page.

Both of those statements are wrong; a blog is not to sell or to redirect...it's to educate. But it also has the side benefit of letting your sales page rank higher in the search engines, giving your customers more information about your product and your company, and generally just making you appear to be more of a stand-up person. A blog also signals that your website is updated frequently...which impresses visitors and Google alike.

There are dozens of benefits to having a blog on any type of website and almost no downside. So if you're going to stick with the blog and post even just once per month...or once every three months, then have it on-site.

I think that I better to go with blog + website because your website will be then still updated with fresh content. In that content you can write about benefits of a products and pointing people to the sales page. When you will be able to solve problems of people in a and show them that as a benefit then you can rank that article and pre sell them product right in article by solving that problem.

Website = Blog + Sale Pages + Squeeze Pages
Focus write articles about your expertise. Customers only buy from you if and only if customers trust you, believe you are the expert about the products that you sell.

In our experience, we've seen blogs within a website do much better. Especially in terms of marketing via social media. You can then plug your blog post directly, offering you fans/followers some value and once they've read the blog, they can easily access your site to purchase your product/services.

I like option 2. This is what i do to drill content to my email leads to get them to value my info. But option #1 works too. Try and see which one is best for you.

as per my experience i recommend both blog and website should be included. Blog can drive excellent amount of traffic which can generates sales and reputation building in Search engine ranking. Try to keep it engaged with interesting content, your expertise, tips, tricks, tutorial and how to guide etc. so better include it.

I do; after all, most domains aren't more than 12$ per year. It is still new, but the idea is to market it to a slightly different niche, and filter their traffic to my Blog. I didn't spend more than a couple hours on it so far; it should pay off once it is indexed.

I post emotional articles about animal cruelty, loyalty, etc. on my blog; things that get people riled up. On my website, I am focusing on dog behavior and training, no real emotion there, but the same general topic.

Your internet presence will likely reflect the traffic you get, no matter how well it is optimized (because the main focus is the blog, you probably won't spend much effort on the website).

That is my little experiment; not sure what the others here think.

    Hi,

Thank you for your many responses.

If I make a website with a blog included,
I must put the latest articles or a static
    page on the homepage ?

What is the best strategy ?

I think the best strategy is to have a mostly static homepage that has the latest posts from your blog.

Google loves vibrant active sites that are updated frequently so having your blog in your site builds more power with Google. Having the "Latest Articles" or something on the main page of your site will show frequent updates on your homepage as well as the blog - building value for both.

Now if you are buying traffic - I would recommend having specific landing pages without links to the blog as they interrupt the sales funnel.

Of course I'll use a squeeze page and a salespage.
But I'll follow your advice and I'll put my latest articles
      on the home page.

      Thank you all.

I'd say a website with the blog included, it should help on many aspects

A website plus blog is always better. A website is basically just a static page. You don't update that as often and as easily as you do with blogs. Blogs on the other hand, can be updated as often as you like. Your blog should be your reason why people come to your site and come back.

I would recommend you have a website + a clickable tab that directs visitors to your blog which you should update frequently. A blog can double your traffic and sales if you use it to build your list. Not having a blog means you're leaving way too much money on the table. You immediately cut your potential in half. So yeah, website + blog while you're out there building a list.

Agree on the above points - a website with a blog gives you far more versatile options to send visitors to your main sales pages, in addition to having a strong utility on other social media platforms.

What I would recommend is that you make each blog post exceptional in quality - with high quality writing, a length of more than 100 words and helpful graphics. These are the kind of articles that will get you backlinks when you reach out to create linking partnerships.

Posting even once a month with a high quality post is far stronger for serps than a lot of shorter less comprehensive ones.

Good luck with your new venture OP!

I personally just use Tumblr and Medium.com for blog type content, and I link to my website from there. I don't however link to my tumblr or medium profile from my websites. Just my Twitter.
