Is it even worth it to create a blog, post original content (a topic I enjoy) and once I gain a following, implement ways to generate revenue from it (such as affiliates, ads, etc)?

Or is this an outdated way of making good revenue online, which will also just take way too long and not be worth it?

Hopefully that makes of sense, thanks.

PS: I clearly know to use other outlets like social media to gain a following, but the main "focus" would be to get people to my website / blog.

Personally I prefer blogging than other social media. It costs you not too much time and works well.

I think that the blogging will never die. However there are still so many people who want to believe they don’t know how to blog and refuse to accept the fact that it is nearly idiot-proof once it is set up.

And the most important factor for creating a successful blogging business is making your blog as a direct communication tool between you and your readers.

Of course, It allows you to communicate with them in a much more personal way than any single article ever could and it allows you to generate content on the fly.

After you build great followers lists then you can monetize your blog and make it cash machine.

Yes blogs are worth it. In some situations they're easier to build and design than a standard website. With tools like Optimize Press creating a blog is amazingly easy. As far as the marketing go.... you would market it (and your products) in the same way as a regular site. Just because it's called a "blog" doesn't mean the rules of internet marketing change. It's just another site. Make sure to build up that email list if you do decide to go the blogging route.
