Quick question - Do domain names have a value to sell if they have never been used ?

Hey Warriors

As in the subject, I have no knowledge on this area so if someone could help please that would be great.

I'm not here to advertise any domains so wont be listing them but the fact is that over the last few months I have hoarded quite a few domains

Many after a few too many beers lol ...

But I do believe some are very good and put to use in their niches would be very keen domain names

So the question, if all I have ever done is purchased them and never touched them would they hold any sale value ??

I guess to expand on the thread for a good topic, if they would not hold much value to consider selling what could be done with them to give some value without a lot of time commitment ? ( If anything of course )

Thanks in advance !

Dean

    Absolutely they have value.

I'd pay $100, $1000, or even $10,000 for the right name by itself.

There's a lot of good money in a great name.

Yes, depending on the domain name and the niche it is associated with you may find some very interested buyers.

I paid $9,000 for a domain name back in 2005 that had never been used. Short answer to your question - absolutely!

Unless your domain has real value you can't do nothing with it.

You can ask yourself a few questions to understand if your domain name is something that you can actually sell out there.

    1. Is it one word domain?

If you have one word domain you can start making money right away. Simply list it in the premium domain names for sale at flippa and you're ready to go.

    2. Does it describe exactly what it sounds?

If your domain is really unique and it sound exactly like what people are going to see inside than you have a winner.

There are a lot of 3 words domains like - "Cheap Iphone Hack"

This domain can actually tell you what you can find inside the domain name. If you have such a domain name than again, list it for sale, you can get over 400 bucks for a good one.

    3. Is your domain going to be a hit in the near future?

    Let's say you have a domain like..."http://www.PigsFlu.com".

In this case you can be sure that this domain is going to be strong in the next few months. You'll be able to sell it for a LOT of money.

Of course there are more aspects to look at when buying or selling a domain name, but you can be sure that if you have one of those things, you are going to make some greens.

    Good luck!

    P.S

Don't ever buy a domain when you're drunk again. Your senses are to high when you're drunk and you feel that any domain can make you rich. I tell you that from experience

    Hey ..

Thanks Mike !! some good info my man

    LOL ... Johnny

Man I always knew I did it for a reason hehe

Just thinking then guys, would there be any way of knowing the value or would it just be a case of put it for sale on an auction such as Flippa and see what happens ??

    Thanks again !

      Hi Dean,
Yes domains have value dependant on how desirable they are. Remember that the domain market is still doing reasonably well as more companies and people wake up to the fact that their can only be 1 of each top level domains.

To be honest, I had a domain with a simple blog that was about to expire. I listed it on Flippa and I had a surprize...

It was sold for $250. Unbelievable!

List it. All you have to loose is 20 bucks.

    Cheers,

Yes they do...I've sold a few names for a few hundred a pop that were not being used at all.

Have a partner that is in the process of selling one now that has no active development...that will likley close in the 4,500 to 5,000 range.

          Really guys?

Is it still possible to make money from domains?
It was my first trial online to make some money from buying and selling domains, I failed miserably and realized that this market isn't as it used to be anymore..
Are you telling me it still works?

Can you share experience here? How to determine of a domain has a good value or not?
Where to list your domains for sale to get good offers? (I tried GoDaddy aftermarket and it's useless)

I list my domains on Sedo. Sold one for over $400 on there. Sold another one for $900 by emailing a couple related companies to see if they were interested and one was.

Namepros.com is an excellent website to learn about and buy and sell domains. There's also a site called estibot.com where you can get a rough estimate of how much a domain might be worth. It's not completely accurate, of course because all it really takes to sell a domain is someone who wants it badly enough to pay well for it.

    Yes, absolutely.

Domains without websites sell all the time.

Unfortunately for domain owners, the vast majority of domains listed for sale in the aftermarket will never be sold.

The value of any particular domain is dependent on its quality, and sometimes a little bit of luck. Most domains will never sell for more than the registration cost because it's just too easy for a buyer to find a reasonable substitution.
