Best options for marketing for an online service/freelance provider site

I've recently completed a site that functions as a gig/freelance marketplace where users can post their skills, offer services and reply to requests. Much like eLance or Fiverr.

My main challenge now is populating it with freelancers / service providers, before marketing to prospective buyers of services. Kind of a chicken before egg scenario.

Does anyone have any experience in growth of this nature? Insights?

Thanks so much!

Offer your first 50 service providers a free spot and never take a commission from them. Its worth a try to get the ball rolling. I thought about doing a service like fiverr or elance but only services offline but online. Something else you may want to look into.

I will wash your vehicle for $10. Of course the company has to be a registered business in order to sign up and you can do it in your hometown. You can expand in different towns by charging the companies that sign up hosting space or another form of commission.

Arrival7 offered a great promo idea with offering a free spot with your first x amount of sellers. Another thing is reach out on social media. Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter all have a great market from people who freelance/work from home. Set up accounts for your site, keep your branding consistent and start creating content about how your site is different or the benefits you will see from offering your services there, as well as any other platforms they may already be active on.

Thanks guys. The model is similar and caters to both online and in personal gigs. As well as shippable custom items. It's already free to sign up and post your devices. Definitely open to commission-less first users to populate, but what's the best avenue to gain exposure to the market of service providers?
