I think the third reason is the most important for having a responsive website
Mobile usage has tremendously increased over the years.

responsive website is meant for all screen sizes so very useful to a massive smartphone market...website not responsive will lead to your website not even seen by mobile users...

    4. mobile users will angrily leave your almost unusable site. Had it just recently when the website looked like the artwork of a madmen rather than a website on travelling.

Yea it's a no-brainer these days really. There are few reasons why you wouldn't just use a responsive design.

I won't argue that a responsive design is not important, because it is, but...

everyone thus far has simply repeated sound bites that they probably heard somewhere else, without really adding anything to what is probably pretty common knowledge.

The Comscore graph replicated by @mreespinosa (just above) is the only piece of information shared that contains any supporting data, and even that is given at such a gross level as to be of no value (other than to just satisfy the reader's personal curiousity). Think about it...
    1. How much overlap exists between those 2 user profiles (desktop vs. mobile)
    2. Is there a difference in the way (and for what purpose) the mobile users access the web vs. the activities performed by desktop users when online? (i.e. Are mobile users more/less likely to actually purchase via the mobile device)
    3. How many of the 1.9 Billion global mobile users are unable to afford a desktop device, software, and internet connectivity vs. a cell phone and cell service (or free wi-fi hotspot access), and are they more or less likely to be purchasing anything at all, online?
    4. Because of #3, what percentage of the mobile users really represent a significant portion of your target market?

IMHO... A significant percentage of the growth in mobile users is due to greater accessibility because of the lower cost of entry. That opens up access not only to 3rd world countries, but also to lower income levels in parts of the U.S. Free/low cost cell phone access is provided by social welfare programs in many U.S. states, but how do those users fit as a part of your target market?

My purpose for posting is not to "shoot down" what anyone else has said, but rather to encourage a discussion with more meaningful information than you might find on someone's sales page or in a $7 WSO. Would love to hear from anyone who can share more detailed information, either from recognized, reliable sources, or from their own stats.

It is all down to LOAD TIMES, and how information shows on your screen..

When you create any content online it is a good idea to check how it loads on all available screens you have - there are also emulators available -

People quickly leave sites that do not give them what they want quickly.

Many marketers do not do any SEO and so they do not care at all what Google thinks.

Some niches get almost 0 SEARCHING or BUYING traffic from mobile devices.

I have always built responsive websites but like Sid clearly shows it is not some magic way to get more traffic or make more money in many niches.

More and more people are starting to use mobile devices. That's a good enough reason in itself.
