Is it just me or is it getting impossible to search through the WSOs with all the special characters. Since you now have to really search for an offer of value, it is impossible to find anything in there.

No it is not just you. The beauty of it is now that the "normal headline" WSOs stand out. LOL

I try to avoid posts that just read "this" or "+1" but incase anyway has missed the value in this post ...

      this

      +1

Seriously. For anyone about to run a WSO. Go scan the forum and see what subjects stand out and I'd wager for 90% of people it's the ones with normal subjects now.

    I completely disagree.

If "plain" works so well, why is that when people were putting pictures next to their adsense ads the CTR jumped significantly?

Now if you were to say that it is impossible to find anything because it scrolls so fast, yeah, we're on the same page.

      Hi Jason,

I don't know if you use all the funny symbols or not. I don't even know if the symbols work for others. I'd think maybe the funny symbols are working or so many wouldn't be using them. I'm just saying to me the plain ones stand out to me now.

The stars you use in the one WSO I see of yours are no where near the use of symbols I'm speaking of. In fact your stars are tame compared to the others. The stars look quite good in a headline actually. Again IMO.

I wasn't going to mention my WSO, didn't want to get in trouble, but yeah, I only use a few stars. This is the first time I used any of the graphics. Every time I listed with a plain title, I felt like mine was lost amongst the ones that were using the graphics.

Obviously, you'd need people who use the heavy graphics next to their titles to come in and weigh in, to know for sure.

I'm willing to bet though that the more images next to the headline, the more attention they get. You can't help it, your eyes are drawn to them.

How in the world would you determine value by whether or not a title has special characters or not?

Is it already that time of the month to bitch about the special characters in WSO titles?

Like I've said a few times before, since everyone seems to be using these special characters, the trick for WSO publishers to stand out in the WSO section at this point in time is to NOT USE special characters.

    Seems logical to me...

I used the special symbols once back when it was a bit of a novelty.

Now I'd rather fill up my subject line space with valuable information that makes people want to click - not a bunch of useless gibberish like L@@K!!!!!!!1111

I agree with many including the OP ... The characters need to go but hey while they stay all the other ones that actually use "real informative information" does stand out better ....

Perhaps the special characters in the WSO section need to appear different - you know, like blackhat - a different character shows up as a word like "impotent" or "scam" etc.

Yes, it is silly out of control.

Hey Steven, tell us how you really feel.

Selling is all about getting people's attention. You can't sell anyone something until you first get their attention. If they feel they need these characters, then I could give a sh** if they use them. I don't think it gets me to click on the thread more than I would have done anyway, but who knows. I am trying to avoid that section of the forum anyway. Just too much compelling sales copy in there.

lol - For marketers, I really think that some people just don't get it.

If you want to use them - Use them.

If you don't use them - Why do you care if others do?

I can personally tell you that the people that use them are not being "punished" for using them. Also, I'm not understanding how people are
equating WSO's with special characters as being inferior to those without
them? It's laughable and sounds ridiculous to even say lol

    Hey Jeremy,

If you don't use them - Why do you care if others do?
I think the main reason others care is because it looks trashy to some, and most aren't used to it yet. And for some others, it reminds them of years past when things got a bit spammy lol - not that they aren't still in some cases.

For me? Lol I don't care what people use in their subject lines. I have no control over it, so why should I let that bug me?

I do know one thing though, this topic keeps coming up month after month, and people do get tired of seeing it in the main discussion. To me it's nothing more than a generic way of B*^ching about the same thing.

      Mary,

You are probably right, but it just makes me laugh when marketer A thinks that they can tell marketer B how to market?

Hell, I don't like half the colors that I see on most of the websites out there, should those colors be banned? lol

Exactly Jeremy! That was my whole point - I'm laughing right there with ya. It's silly to waste time on it when we have no controll over that stuff.

Lol it reminds me of one of my neighbors. I've only lived here since July 1, and I have their number. They like to squalk about what everyone else is doing and how their places look, but they haven't figured out that they're not any better then the one's they're squalking about.

It amazes me that there is now always more people in the wso section then in the main forum. Special characters must be doing something right. Kudo's to Steven for the Dice man comment, made me laugh.

I have run WSO's with and without the special symbols. I think if your offer is good it sells. If it's bad no amount of special charachters will help you.

Special symbols are all very well if if you've got the space to keep enough of them to hand, but what do you do when you're out of of stock? It's the story of my life. Only this morning I ran out of Ipsums when building a website mock-up, and I've only got about half a dozen Lorems left before I'll have to re-order.

Special symbols don't do a lot for me - like Ipsum Lorem, there's probably a better use of space. Similarly, there's probably a place for them too, and if they float your boat then I don't see a problem.
