How many ads do you display?

I know this sounds silly, but I just got a big win by testing more ads on my site. I was always an advocate of not bugging the visitor too much, so always stuck with one ad.

Tried by best to optimize that one ad by testing size, position, etc. Finally found 2 good performers.

Then I just tried putting them both on the page. Check out the results:

So before I would get either $3 CPM or $7 CPM. Now with both combined I get $9 CPM, and since they're unobtrusive it doesn't bother the visitors too much.

Yay for increased earnings!

I'm now wondering about trying 3 ads, so just thought I'd ask the experts out there - how many ads per page is too annoying, in your opinion?

you may be better off trying this sub forum Ad Networks (CPM/CPL, Display, SEM) as the main board will give you some answers but a lot of newbies on here and most of the experts hang out in there

Thanks, was thinking about that but thought it might be more about you advertsising, not you displaying advertising for others. Will try!

Well that's good to know. Did you notice any change in engagement (ie, less page views per session) when you increased the number of ads?

Don't forget that AdSense has quite strict rules about the number of ads on a page.

    Ad limit per page

Currently, on each page AdSense publishers may place:

Yes, totally understand that and won't take a chance losing my AdSense account. I'm talking about going from 2-3 ads, not 6 or more. Thanks for looking out though!

On my blog, i only have 2 image ads that a visitor can click on. It used to be 3. But these ads are at the end of each blog post. I had two other things before then, and it didn't make me much money. But now with this setup, i'm getting more sales strictly from my blog.

Just curious, when you say 'image' ads, are you restricting the type to image as opposed to image/text? Also, did you try at the beginning or inside the post instead of at the end? Just curious, as I've noticed big differences when split testing stuff like that.
