    • If you have a Wordpress site, then use the "Simple IP Ban" plugin. That should do the trick!

Nope, won't work against referral spam, wish it was that easy.

Many referral spammers are good at spoofing IP addresses, user agents, and will not be deterred by IP bans, nor .htaccess entries. In fact those tactics have absolutely no effect on Ghost spammers.

It's not a real spam, it's a Ghost Spam. It actually never accesses your site. It's a fake visit that will only show on your Google Analytics. It's not a bot.

I am also getting traffic from this scum, and i haven't managed to get rid of him until today.

I have also tried blocking from .htaccess and excepting from google analytics, but it doesn't work.

I am afraid it doesn't work due to the cyrilic characters of the domain.

If someone resolves this, please post how you did it.

Blocking .htaccess, won't work for this one. As I mentioned in my earlier post this ghost spam never actually reaches your site. It's a fake visit. I think it's probably getting into the reports through Google Analytics Measurement Protocol.

It seems, this Ghost spam doesn't actually represent any harm related to SEO or security. So no need to worry about this too much. It can probably be filtered out in Google Analytics. I will take a look tomorrow if I can figure out how to do it.

        Hey Joe Ray

Thanks for the information. I agreed that its not harmful as per the SEO prospective but it shows the wrong report of google analytic which is not good. Have you any suggestion on this.

I know there is a way to filter it but it will take a little work. I haven't had the time to look into it yet. I will try to take a look and post the solution if I manage to figure it out.

It's actually easy to filter it out from Google Analytics. Here is how to do it:
          • Sign in to your Google Analytics account.
          • Click Admin in the menu bar at the top of any page.
          • In the ACCOUNT column, use the dropdown to select the Analytics account that contains the property you want to work with.
          • In the PROPERTY column, use the dropdown to select a property.
          • Click Tracking Info.
          • Click Referral Exclusion List.
          • To add a domain, click +ADD REFERRAL EXCLUSION.
          • Enter the Domain name.
          • Click Create to save.

While it does remove those referrals from showing in the referral section, that actually causes them to be classified as "Direct Traffic"...which doesn't help you!

In short... don't do it. lol.

You are absolutely correct. Don't use the referral exclusion filter it will really hose your data.

The Google Analytics Referral Spam Solution
              1. new website? Use a '-2' or higher property
              2. implement a Valid Hostname Filter to eliminate ghost visits
              3. implement Spam Crawler Filters to eliminate the targeted spam visits
              4. create a Custom Segment with these filters to use for reporting
              5. turn on Google's bot & spider filter option

You may wish to install the IQ Block Country plugin - here is a direct link -

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/iq-block-country/

Note: Be sure to read the installation instructions carefully as it requires an extra step compared to other WP plugin installations - you have to download and then upload the current database of countries as a separate part of the installation process.

Man, I know your problem. However, there's something you can do with this. You should carefully read this article, which explains everything in depth - https://moz.com/blog/stop-ghost-spam...ith-one-filter

As you will see first - DON'T TRY TO BLOCK GHOST SPAM FROM THE .HTACCESS FILE, because there's other way.

I think it is not so dangerous and harmful but also it is not good SEO point of view. So you should see it and try to srop this attack from other unknown websites.

Well, it looks like filtering doesn't work. I did more research and it seems no one knows how to get rid of this.

Google should fix it, it's their issue. As I mentioned in my earlier post, this ghost spam is probably getting into the reports through Google Analytics Measurement Protocol. Of course, only Google know how they're getting in, or do thy really know?

Maybe this is the beginning of Google's decline and fall lol. I will certainly stop using Google Analytics.

Looks like the filtering worked after-all. The ghost spam stopped a day after I implemented the filters.

First I thought it didn't work, as I said in my previous post, but now it's clear that I have no more spam in my Google Analytics. So filtering seems to be the answer.

    @PoojaSingh, blocking via .htaccess and google filters will prevent future occurrences of the spam only;

to clean your historical data, you must create an advanced segment either by
    advanced segments excluding the referrals
    or
advanced segments including the host name

if you are starter i recommend to go with the fist option

    cheers
