How do you/I deal with unknown authors when reselling their products. Not Mr. X but really Missing

Hi All,

Over the past few years I've bought a TON of eBooks with Master Resell Rights and Resell Rights.

I'm going to repackage them with my own sales letters and virtual eCovers and sell the best of the best of them. Some of them I'll use as list builders. Here is my problem.

I'm running across some very well written eBooks that came with licenses similar to this.

[YES]Can be packaged
[YES]Can be offered as a bonus
[YES]Can be sold
[YES]Can be given away
[NO]Can be edited
[YES]Can be used as web content
[NO] Can be sold on EBay or Other Auctions
[YES] Can sell Resale Rights
[YES] Can sell Master Resale Rights
[NO] Can sell Private Label Rights

Inside the eBooks are the usual Copyright notices and such. There is even a paragraph that says "If you have any questions, Contact me...."

PROBLEM.

There is NO NAME of any author or any email address, nothing, NADA. It's like the author meant for resellers to put in their own info. (PLR) except as you see by the License you can't modify the content.

Sooooo.... What would you suggest? Just sell these with no comment on the "missing author." Sell them as Author unknown and apologise for the missing contact info. Or cap on the "missing Author angle. "Mystery Manuscripts found, Author unknown..... or something to that effect. Or something else?

Ideas greatly appreciated.

George Wright, P.S. These ebooks will appeal to the IM/Work at home/Copy writing crowd.

    Hello George,

That is weird. If it is PLR you should have the right to edit it and claim authorship. Sounds like someone making up those rights had no idea what they are talking about. I've never heard of PLR that can't be edited.

      Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply. Let me clarify a bit. I didn't mean it was PLR I meant the names and dates were left blank as if it were PLR. The format is PDF not .doc so I couldn't change it if I wanted to. Well, I could rip it easily enough but that's not what I want to do. Looking at the term above "can be used as web content" I guess I would have to rip it to use it for web content.

Anyway, I'm brainstorming here. Thanks again for your reply.

I see a CAN use as web content... Put the whole book online? Password protected blog? Just an idea. That statement should let you grab the text unedited but add your own info/remarks.

After a few years, probably hard to even contact the original seller and I bet they have forgotten the project. Are there other free copies online already?

I found the same text in an ebook by another name. Just one instance. Copyright 2006 mine is Copyright 2007. Apparently this is PLR that someone sold and others compiled under different titles.

            Thanks all,

you can re-write it in your own words, totally re-do everything, and don;t copy anything, but start by writing and doing more research online. Create your own book and copyright it.

      Thanks,

But, actually I can sell it. I have resell rights. My question is how to "explaine" to the buyer that it has no author. Maybe I'm just over thinking the whole thing. It's a nice eBook and I can see myself asking, hey why no author name. Then, that's maybe just me and my weirdness.

I just read the ebook Didier has in his post above. Very good, very scarey.

    Thanks,
