Alternatives to Skype for small business owners?

Hey guys...

If I wanted an easy way to talk to prospects on their computers from my computer...so they can see a live person, before they buy from me...what would I use? And more importantly, what would they have to do too (these people are very internet ignorant?)

Skype would be good...but most of these people would have to create an account first to speak with me and I am trying to make this easy for them?

Go WF!

There are some solutions for this but your prospects will have to do some setting up like copying some code that you send them. This could be even more troublesome for them than creating a Skype account.

I dont think it would be a problem ,Everyone uses skype and it is the most popular among everything ,

If you go for something else then it could be a problem ,as most of them would not have heard about it ,

and they would have to create a new account there

Everybody either uses skype , or knows the name, I would stick with them.

I have two that I use depending on which one offers me a better connection that day. The aforementioned Skype and "Fuze Meeting" Fuze is a solid free program and I highly recommend.

Thanks for the tip Steve! I also just finished setting Fuze up and it is looking very very promising. Skype is pretty good for what it is but it is definitely not 100% reliable and more often really laggy when I'm on a rather large conference call.

You can use Skype or Facebook video call. You can also try facetime. If they don't know how to create accounts for Skype or FB, then go and make a tutorial video and send it to them. Let them watch it and you guys can talk all you want.

Take a look at Warbench - really useful tool for company calls. I wrote a case study about them in the end of last year.

I agree that sometimes people are reluctant to register to skype.

    For alternative, I would suggest:
    1. Facebook Video call
    2. Messenger that works with smartphone, such as Whatsapp, Line, Telegram. Mst people already have this on their smarphone. You can record your video directly from your smartphone and send it to them.

You can make a new apps by which one can make video chat without any account. There are many freelancer who are ready to make this kind of application. Thanks for your advance.

You should check out GoToMeeting. I think it has everything that you're looking for in this particular kind of software.

You could always put a live chat on your website. There's a free one I used for a while, I believe it's called My Live Chat. All you have to do is put the box on your site, download the messaging software, and any visitor to your site can live chat directly with you.

I believe Join.Me might suit your needs as well. They have a free version and I'm 99.9% sure you can do voice calls along with screen sharing.

      Best of luck!

  • GoToMeeting is nice but I prefer Glance since your prospect doesn't have to download anything, they just see it all thru their browser. But for audio I think you'd still need to be on the phone with them if you use glance so take that into account.

    Google hangouts could also work.
