THOSE ASKING ME TO PERFORM SEARCH OPERATION IN FORUM NEED NOT TO REPLY AS I HAVE ALREADY DONE SO AND IT WAS OF NO AVAIL.

Thanking in anticipation

You can definitely make excellent income with Kindle books.

I'd suggest researching categories and keywords to make sure that your books will be seen when people search for terms related to your books' content, and have a promotional strategy in place when you launch a book.

I'm still making a lot of money with Kindle. I would say my sales declined by 10% or something...Nothing to go crazy about.

Some people put a link in their introduction that re-direct the reader to the conclusion of their book and offer them a book for free in exchange of their e-mail. By doing this, ALL the pages in your book will be marked as READ in just one click...

Not necessary to shout. There was a thread recently on the topic - with several excellent answers toward the end of the thread....

But also - there is a full (one time payment) section devoted to Kindle publishing...

And what's the benefit of that? Does Amazon use that as some sort of signal for ranking the book or something like that?

While that is true, authors can use what Amazon has to offer to make money. If you do a KDP launch and offer a bonus package that includes an event or webinar where you can have an upsell, you can make a lot of money on the backend. Also, by doing a KDP launch, you can make your book a best-seller and that will increase interest in the book when you market it in other avenues.

Basically, you will make a lot less money now. The update was used to crush small authors like for example - me. Yeah, the good old days are over. Still, you can make some money. Remember that you need a checking account for direct deposit now. Still remember getting a check from amazon. It was great going to the bank and cashing it, but no more.

If you are an expert in one area. Well, that would be great place for you to write an e-book on, and Kindle does not charge you any money. Toward the end of the book create a section for resources. That is where you put your links to your web site, but don't put in too many. Other wise, amazon can ban you. Certainly, that can be a major pain.

Remember that amazon is friendly toward major authors with big names. That is not you. Sharks eat minnows. OK so for that reason... I try to go after a niche that is narrow. Frankly, it is important to be the number one ranked book for a certain keyword and not be buried on page seven.

Here are some factors amazon uses:
    • Keyword in book title
    • Keyword in book desc
    • Keyword in body copy
    • Total sales
    • Total reviews

    I agree with SEOBRO

I have found that the small number of non-fiction books I have that are all under various pen names are not making the money they once did. I am seeing that people who either stick with a pen name for a series (or write a series under their own name) are those who are getting ahead in the game.

Don't forget, you can have a series in non-fiction as much as you can in fiction!

Thing is, that Amazon isn't just like Google in terms of it being a search engine - it also has an algorithm and ranking factors. It even says on the tin: you have an Author Rank.

If you created a handful of blog posts with the aim of making money, each under different names, then did nothing else - would they make money? Or would you need to follow up with more content?

Just something to consider before you get into it...

and PS - if you look at some Indie writers, like Joanna Penn - who has shown author earnings - they tend to also market info products based around self publishing. In her case, the last one I saw showed that she was making as much from marketing her "how to" stuff as she was from writing. Unless you turn out to be an incredible fiction author, I think this is the way to go.

Don't take this as being negative, just don't jump in and expect to be making thousands next month.

A friend of mine generates about 8k/month with it, so I guess there's some value in it ... Somewhere Like said before it's similar to Google in a way, keyword-research is "key" Do proper research on competition before creating your product, if you don't know what sells beforehand then it probably won't.

Kindle is still profitable, atleast for me. Nothing changed much if you know what keywords and categories are profitable.
