Help on domain name suggestions on specific niche

I am planning to start a website related to technology and/or online learning tutorials with video/text. I mainly focus on what I know perfectly, like tutorials on wordpress, ms-office, oracle, java, seo, photoshop and etc.

I don't know the most searched keyword phrases on this niche. Please help me how to chose the domain name on this niche or guide me to how to find most searched keywords on this niche.

And does domain length also matters? if yes, upto how many characters, I may consider?

Thank you.

Use adwords keyword tool to find out what people are searching for. I would suggest keeping your domain relatively short - long domains look a bit spammy. If you can't find an exact match domain (or very close match domain) then I would suggest getting a domain that is more brandable and don't include your keyword in it at all.

Go to google and type in domain generators and I am sure they will help you come up with something, when you type in the keywords in your niche. Worth a try.

Do a Google search for "domain name generator" in order to get some good ideas on what name to choose. When you decide on a few make sure that you are not infringing on copyright (avoid brand names even if included as a part of your domain name).

Just create the most feasible domain that fits what your site is all about. And judging by this question, i will give you a simple domain name idea:

And it's still available. Site name don't matter. All that matters is the marketing.

There are many threads here on doing market research in order to discover a profitable niche. I would suggest you spend some time using the search function and reading those threads - they will help you with the details of where to go, what to look for, etc.

Technology is not a niche. Drill down until you reach a level where your audience is all seeking the same thing. You want your audience to be like-minded so that when you present an offer, it will be relevant to everyone.

Only register a domain when you have a plan for how you'll use it. Product tutorials are all over the Internet and many of them are free. See what the competition is doing and how you might fill any holes or voids in the marketplace.

When you register a domain, find a short, memorable dot com and don't settle for other extensions. Don't go for "cute" or "clever." You want something that is easily typed, easy to spell, and expressive of what your site is about so people looking at the domain have a clue about what you do.

      Good luck to you.

Not necessarily Steve. There are countless (very) successful Companies that have branded domains that don't communicate what the site is about.

Understood, if you're talking about Amazon and other gorillas . . . however, those companies have huge marketing and branding budgets and a lot of muscle and reach in order to make the name a household word.

For a solo entrepreneur just starting out, I think it's better to include at least a keyword in your domain so quick browsing prospects can at least have a clue about what you do when deciding whether to visit your site.

Here's an example: TriStar.com What do they do? Who knows?

A better domain name for this company would be TriStarTalentAgency.com Then looking at the domain name, you can quickly judge if it's something you want to visit.

It's just my opinion and others will feel differently.

Fair enough. Makes a lot of sense.
            : )

The problem with the domain I suggested is (like you mentioned) it's difficult to spell/remember. Thanks for pointing that out.

              Jonathan,

To my way of thinking, there is no right or wrong way to do it - as soon as you set some "rules" then all the exceptions to the rule become glaring.

I just go with what my experience tells me seems to be the better choice. Sometimes it works out . . . often I have to learn the hard way.

Steve (and thanks for your input).

Interesting website idea! Focus on keywords related to 'tutorial' 'training' 'academy' 'learning' 'courses' etc and let the content-specific keywords be secondary, this is how you will find a great domains that will work.

Also by keeping the content keywords generic you could let others post tutorials on the site in their own niche they are experts in. There is even a coupoe wordpress themes to start a website for this so google those you will see what i mean

lastly i see several sites doing this already one of which i make a ton of money on, simply posted by wordpress training videos on there like 3 years ago make a nice bit of change every month from sales, no work involved on my part other than posting the trainign course. so i would recommend udemy.com as the first site you try posting training courses on and if you make money there, know you can make even more with your own site.

keyword research first and then try and get something in there with a keyword or two in them.

But I personally don't think of this too much. Yes, domain name matters but not as much as content. I've had totally unrelated domain names rank first for very competitive keywords.

    Content is king in 2016.

Get keywords from Google adwords, and use names like techhaven, techtown, so that people can remember it easily.
