When do you stop updating a site/stop posting?

I've thought about this for awhile now, but for example if you were in a small niche like "stop snoring" or something. There is only so much you can put on a blog about it.

You can list tips how to stop and some good advice, but eventually there is nothing more to talk about. After about 5 articles giving away plenty of tips, now what?? Is it even worth making a blog that is only 5-10 pages big?

Not to mention email marketing... There literally is no content that you could provide them that you didn't already cover in your website.

Do you have to abandon the site and start a new topic? What do you guys do in this situation?

This is why you shouldn't start a blog on a niche that's too narrow IMO. You want a wide enough niche that you'll never run out of things to talk about.

I think you may be selling yourself short. You just need to be a bit more creative and imaginative when it comes to topics. If you want people to visit your blog you can make it more interesting than just offering tips on how to deal with their problem.

Using the "stop snoring" blog as an example, there could be a blog about the benefits of one type of anti-snoring mask over others, a blog about surgeries or treatments to combat snoring, a blog about a news story such as when someone committed domestic abuse over snoring (actually a true story!), a history blog about treatments from long ago, a blog about health risks and snoring, a blog about children and snoring, a blog about obesity and snoring, etc. I could go on and on about potential topics.

If you're good at online research, I'm sure you will find plenty of information regarding the product, you just need to think of different angles to present it.

One mile deep, one inch narrow. Go with further research and find more topics to write about. The more specific your posts, the more engaged your audience.

Honestly, you should never run out of topics to write and even if you do, rephrase a previous topics header and write another post!

    Stop snoring?

    - How lemons can possibly result in less snoring
    - 10 Things your wife could do to help you stop snoring
    - Statistics on Snoring in America
    - Snoring stopped success stories
    - How Blake Stopped snoring using onion juice

PS - I know nothing about snoring, the top are just examples :p

I would join as many sleep, snoring, sleep apnea, forums as possible with those particular subject topics as possible. When people post, those post will become my topics. For example if I were to create an offline marketing blog, I would watch the offline marketing section on the Warrior Forum and get my topics to blog about from there. By reading other peoples replies, I would be able to go into greater detail in my writings. Best of luck.

I like to know a site's profitable before I put too much work into them, so I generally start with 10 to 20 articles / posts, and throw some links at it to see what's going to happen.

It lets me move onto launching more sites, then picking up the winners when they pop their head through the clouds.

If I already know the niche is profitable and big enough to sustain it, there's no reason not to go a "inch wide, mile deep", like already mentioned above, and continually throw content at the site.

Well, mostly it's about getting creative within the niche you've chosen. There was a good post above with a variety of article titles, that was an illustrative way of thinking on the topic.

Additionally, really flesh your content out -- include graphics, video if you can, podcast and then a transcript for that too, lists etc. Go for depth of content rather than width and generate a lot of really solid content. Even if published monthly, far better than shallower articles published more frequently.

There's more than meets the eye. It may seem like a dead end but do some research. You'll be shocked at what you can learn and how you can bridge one topic to another. How to stop snoring could be related to obesity or food diet, stress or other habits. That immediately opens up more content for your blog and emails.

Research will most likely solve your issue. If you think that it's still to shallow for you, then choose another niche.

If you have a blog, the moment you stop updating your content is when you start losing your readers and your following. It's always best to keep updating your content and keeping everything fresh.

At some point you might be writing more for the search engines than for actual people. The fact is you need to put up new content and link to your old stuff from the new stuff to keep the search engines interested.
This being said. You can always write about the same old stuff from a new angle. Tour the forums and see what questions people are asking and answer them on your site. Or you can even do a summary post where you have a list of the top stuff you've written about in the past. At this point, it's mostly about finding creative way to write about the same topic over an over again.

From my past experience, there does come a time when you run out of content in those particular niches. However, you can still keep going. Post some old content as a ''Reminder'' or a ''Highlight''. Spin the words, make it seems like new. There are a lot of ways that you can keep the site going.

Focus more on promoting your content instead of posting frequency

If you post like a maniac, you're not going to get solid traffic if you don't promote your content.

    NO !! Incorrect.

I have very narrow niches which I can effectively talk about for years with consistent unique Content.

It is about being creative and hustling.
For instance, you could talk about your daily Life as it may apply to this problem. And make a journal via blog posts about it.

I do this with Fitness and Weight Loss.
There is always ideas you can come up with to get more fodder for your Content.

There are a lot of ways a blog can be updated without adding new articles yourself.

      - Comments from readers would be one.
      - Adding relevant videos from existing videos on You Tube to a blog post would be another. - - Adding graphics with keywords in the alt tag would be one. Adding audio would be one.
      - Adding free pdf file downloads would be one.
      - Seek out guest bloggers. Let them put in a couple of links to their site in the article.
      - Start a swipe file of future article ideas and add to it when you come across something interesting.

Etc. etc. Working at updating your blog content takes pressure off of you to come up with new ideas.

Just little updates on a regular basis let's the search engines know you have an active blog.

from money to health to news...

        News always News as usual

now a days news very " standard "

        Local news
        World news

always talk about what? Politics , Terrorism , financial than local news .

for Money , always same , how to earn online , reviews marketing products , etc

health and fitness , same how to keep fit , etc

cats and dog same ..how to maintain cat , dog , funny videos of them.

another one is like 9GAG ....if you see their photo etc..also always the same concept ...just that recycle the headline etc.

You may be giving the casual visitor too much credit. You assume that each visitor will consume all the content on your blog on their initial visit. This is rarely true.

Get the email. Use the same content for an email series as you have on the blog. I can pretty much guarantee that your subscribers will have missed some of your content on the blog.

Many of the same suggestions for expanding blog content apply to email marketing, especially broadcasts. Don't be afraid to link to other peoples' content, especially if the other person is perceived as a topic authority.

For example, while I think Dr. Oz is a quack, many dote on every word he says. You come across a video where Oz explains what your poop says about your snoring. You send a broadcast pointing to the video and adding your own comments. Bingo, you've just put yourself on the same authority level as Oz. Do it often enough, with enough true experts, and people will start buying your authority whether you really deserve it or not.

If you use a programmed series of emails, add the broadcasts which get the most engagement to your series as long as they stay relevant. You can also add them to your blog.

Don't worry about repeating yourself over time. Look at this forum. How many times a day, week, month do the same questions get asked and answered? Trust me, people won't dig back into your archives and count how many times you've tackled the same basic questions. It just doesn't happen.

Google has a freshness index in their search engine. Basically, if you abandon a web site, the ranking will plunge and that means little or no consumers. Remember to monthly update the front page. It does not have to be changes that are major. Just move a few links around and add the latest news to your body copy. Make sure that you are always adding in more pages to your web site, or just sell it and get some money.

Yahoo/Microsoft is less picky, but those ranking will also plunge if you let sit your web site for a few years. Typically, they will follow Google down and you never recover. OK so that is why you must stay on top of things and there ain't no such animal as a passive income. Getting to the top and staying there requires an aggressive person.

    Best of luck to you.

I believe you should never stop updatig your site. Although, you could probably survive off your site running on autopilot for awhile eventually you'll have to update it because things change all the time.

Furthermore, if you ran out of stuff to say in your niche, then it's time to branch out into other sub niches that are related to your main one. A good example of a company that did this is Facebook.

When Facebook first launched, it was only available to Harvard.edu students. Afterwards they expanded to other colleges, then high schools, now everyone.

That's how huge websites and companies are built. They go after one specific market at a time, and then they expand.

I agree that in small niches it can be difficult to find something new to write to, but that's definitely not after 5-10 posts. More like after 50 posts and then I would simply start repeating some of the information but with a twist. You gave the example of "stop snoring" so after you wrote many articles on that topic you repurpose the information in a new way "how women can stop snoring", "how to stop the snoring of your husband", "stop snoring with natural medicine" and so on.

There are some awesome suggestions in this thread (many of which I've noted for my own use!) In addition to these, you may also want to go to Google News for inspiration/ideas. You can even create an alert to get notified when new articles are posted.

I see several articles already written for "stop snoring" since the beginning of this year (the one about the person snoring during a lethal injection is probably a bit extreme...)

Sometime I do a search from other sites..

I noticed some site never update much ..yet got decent traffic.

I feel perhaps the owner go concentrate other sites and neglect this OR perhaps he just concentrate to drive traffic to the site.

Your method of constructing the blog is perfect...

The only thing where you are facing problems is an absolute "niche" niche domain that you have chosen...

However, you can do continue with the blog by possibly writing as many articles as you can on all health related issues...

Once visitors will start seeing you as a health expert, they will not mind in checking out the products you are promoting...
