I just got a new domain name to expand on my writing and promotional business online. However, I notice that one form of the domain name is currently listed at a five thousand dollar sales price. Many similar domains are being listed at twenty to twenty-five thousand dollars. The domain name itself (professional website promotions) seems to get about 600,000 searches per month on Google. If I could get five grand I could get completely out of debt and rebuild ... but would I be able to get that much? If I build the site and run it until I get an offer on the domain name, how is that going to make me look as far as business is concerned? If I just build it and run it, I know it will benefit me personally but certainly not with a lump-sum big enough to get me completely out of debt and to rebuild. What would you do? Thanks |

Where are the domains listed for sale? Have they actually sold at that price, or just listed at that price? Remember that some companies (like BuyDomains, and GoDaddy's "premium domains" section) sometimes do over-value domains. If you want (I'm a domainer - I have 130+ domain names) feel free let me know the domain name, and if it's valuable (i.e. worth $x,xxx) it may well be worth selling it now. I would imagine it'd be better (from a credibility perspective) to sell the domain now than the build a business on it and then sell the domain afterwards. But there are many variables. As for selling the domain, DNForum.com is a paid domaining forum. NamePros.com is a free domaining forum. Sedo is also a domain name auction platform, but with Sedo you have to receive any offer from the domain before it goes to auction, which slows down any potential sale. |

If the domain name is getting 600k a month I'd build it up and monetize it. if even half those google hits translate to hits on your domain you've got a full time income right there.

Still, with 600k searches a month, ya gotta think that it would seriously help my business in the long run. Thanks, Ward | |

I would try to sell. Even though there is a large amount of volume for the keyword phrase you mentioned, you still have a lot of work to get your new site ranking and beating out sites like network solutions, addme, etc.

Domain and site flipping is one highly misunderstood niche online. While some domains may seem heavily priced, a true analysis will keep some of these domains at less than $100's. Before venturing into selling your domain or setting up a site to flip, there are several factors you will consider. Taking a look at your domain as a business is a fundamental rather than rushing to list it for a big pay just because you have seen others listed for such prices. Determining seriously the worth of a domain is should not be based on your perceived worth base on prices listed, rather it should be on using the right parameters. |
