How do U make Youtube video longer than 10 mins?

Hi Troops

My youtibe video is 11 minutes, I don't really want to split it. There are longer videos on youtube so how come I can't upload longer than 10 minutes. Any ideas? Alternatively, does Viddler accept this and in mp4 format now, before they didn't.

Hi Phil,

Its not possible.

Back in the day... they offered director accounts which could be applied for. Those accounts got to upload longer video. That program was discontinued but the ones that had it were grandfathered.

Have you actually attempted to do the upload?

I know someone who managed just over 10 minutes. The file size was not too large so that might have been why.

Other than that you could do some clever editing to cut a minute.

you can also ask him why he is able to have longer videos than 10 min

I read somewhere that when Google took over, they restricted all new members to 10 minutes. I know I can only post videos at or less than that - even a few seconds over and they fail.

Thanks all for your replies. Yeah, tried uploading it already but def won't let me publish it. As Josh said, seems like the Partner thing is no more. How annoying, that is a real step backwards for YouTube right? Oh well, gotta split it then or film the bl**dy thing again to make it shorter.

Have you tried rerendering at at a slightly faster speed?
10% faster and it will be just under 10 minutes.
At 10% faster, it will only be slightly noticable that it is a little fast.

Yeah, I wondered about that, too. Well, if you have to keep it to 10 minutes, just make your videos more concise and hit the highlights. I use Jing for video screen capture because it's compatible with my Mac, but it's only got 5 minutes on it, so I'm forced to hit the highlights. I am asking that they increase it to 10, though.

You'll be able to work around it.

Yes... sometimes a video might be slightly more... but the limit is 10 minutes. There is no way around that. Google discontinued the longer upload times for Director accounts long ago.

Have I attempted to upload?

I have attempted every youtube hack I could find over the last couple years and even uncovered a few of my own

Your chances of being accepted as a partner are slim to nothing if you do not have desirable content with a significant subscriber base and viewer record.

It'd be best to wait to apply until you have a channel that you think Youtube would want to partner with.

Apparently when YouTube first went live, there was a filesize restriction but no length restriction. Eventually they added a length restriction of 10 minutes. Unfortunately everyone who had registered before this restriction would still be able to upload videos of more than 10 minutes in length but anyone registering after that (I'm one of them!) can't.

So unless we can go back in time (or be accepted as a Youtube Partner) we can't do it - to the best of my knowledge :-(
