Hi guys.

I have a lot of ideas for products, but I want to know what you think is better?

Udemy does make you money, but it also takes away 50% and you need to get the course approved. However, it's very easy to upload videos, write content, etc.

With a sales page, you kind of need affiliates to promote it for you (which I don't have). You have to deal with refunds, support, web design, and all of that stuff. However, you can keep most of the profit.

Which one do you see more fit for launching a product?

Thanks!

It depends whether you like convenience and less profits, or are you willing to deal with the rules of running a business to take more profit home? I chose the latter mostly because you are in complete control of your business & and your customers.

I use clickfunnels and it's very easy to set up a membership area with videos and content etc. They also have a service called backpack which allows you to have affiliates. Now recruiting them can be a slow process but it always pays off.

If you're feeling really good about this, launch it on both your own funnel/website/sales page and udemy. Get some nice reviews and then add them to your sales page.

    Best of luck bud

what if you double the price to cover the 50% commission? Are you competing with others or would your product be unique?

    Why not do both???

    Create your udemy course...

Then create a sales page or WSO for it along with a discount code.

Yeah definitely. No need to choose one over the other unless Udemy has some sort of rule about not selling it elsewhere. In which case you can still get around that by recreating the same training over again, making it slightly different than the original but same information.

I think it depends on who your audience is. Udemy offers such wide verity of courses some are fairly expensive and others are cheap. I took some courses from Udemy about IMO niche and they were fairly cheap $10 or so.
I do like their platform really easy to navigate.

Was thinking about doing both, but I might take the easy way out and go with Udemy since I already have several students that might be interested. It should be about 4-5 hours worth of QUALITY content at elementary level. Maybe it can be $47 or a little less ($10 per hour basically). Yeah, then if that doesn't work as expected it would probably be fine as a WSO. Thanks a lot guys, kind of helped me clear out a few things.

Why don't you do both and measure which one generates more profit...

You can keep 97% of the sale price by creating a coupon for your Udemy course. This will give you a unique link that you can use to send people to your Udemy sales page.

You can still do this even if you offer no discount with the coupon so sales are credited to you.

The only exception is if the person clicking has clicked on a Udemy affiliate link recently (I think in the last 7 days) in which case that affiliate will earn 40% and you'll earn 25%. This isn't an issue most of the time but it can be annoying. Of course, you can always opt-out of their affiliate program.

I have 5 courses on Udemy but will be transitioning them over to my own site just because I want more control, especially over affiliates. I won't remove them from Udemy, but will channel promotional efforts to my own site instead.

Both. And then add another 72 channels of distribution.

If you sold fishing poles t Walmart, wouldn't you want them in Target, too?

    Hi Attack Dome:
Udemy has a built in audience much like e-bay in a way. This will help you turn a profit and is a lot easier. Key to selling courses is coupons. Create a $98 dollar course. OK then do a 50% off sales where it sells for $49 and have only a limited amount of slots so it gets sold out soon. Remember that the early bird gets the worm. Lots of users will complain they missed the sale and send them a special $37 coupon. Also, tell them about a FREE course. This is an added bonus, but only if they act now.

Wait one month and repeat the process. After three months send out a $25 coupon. This is to people who wrote to you that the course was very expensive. Key is to keep after them for money.

Remember that very few people on Udemy pay full price. Often, users will pay $7 for a $299 course and that should be part of your calculations when you sell on this platform to maximize your revenue.

This is a great answer thanks. I guess I'll go with udemy because I'm a bit afraid with all the disclaimers and support tickets that may come with just doing a sales page. Udemy usually takes care of that. Maybe I'll do 50 free coupons to kickstart this and get some reviews going. Thanks everyone.

  • keep in mind with udemy they have control over you and you have to obey them and their TOS some are ok with that and some are not. You have to decide.

The biggest advantage of udemy is not that it is easy to upload videos, but that they do the marketing for you. As a customer I can tell you that this works very well With your own site this will be completely your task, until you attracted enough affiliates, which is not easy as you don't have any yet.
