Website creation. Software

Hi everyone..it's several years I think since I posted in here..but I've never been far away working on ideas etc.
Years ago I used Frontpage to create a website and it was as simple as using word. I hosted it here, well not here on warrior forum but with whoever owned this site.

I now want to create a website with more than the five pages offered on most sites and I want to use a software similar to Frontpage. I have used Dreamweaver in the past but just couldn't get to grips with it.

Any advice and any easy software you can suggest??

I have a failry limited budget.

Sorry I'm so out of touch now and technology really does leap forward a lot faster than I ever could have imagined!

Thanks

Plenty of drag-and-drop page building plugins are available through Wordpress.

The danger there is you get sucked into using someone's plugin, and then they say, "Oh, you need these other plugins to make it work..."

and a little later, "The main pagebuilder plugin is free, but these other feature addon ones that are necessary to use it, well, you have to pay for updates to those."

So research and make sure you don't get caught in that kind of bad deal.

WP is pretty easy by itself though, so why not just pick a theme with great built-in customization features and go from there?

Make sure you understand the distinction between a theme (the overall look and feel of the site, which depending on the developer behind it may have significant built-in customization--which you want) and a plugin, which is a tool for accomplishing something specific.

You can also learn some css and customize the look and feel yourself with a plugin that lets you paste in your own css. This can be as simple as Googling for a css solution for your problem, and then copy-pasting some code into a field.

The longer a theme has been around, and the more people have used it, the more plugins will have been made for it. The Twenty Fourteen theme was a great one for this: several intense customization plugins were made for it and you can really make it look very different from the vanilla version.

I would second Jason's suggestion for Wordpress. It is free but you need to install it on your own host, like Hostgator. Get it at wordpress.org.

It is very flexible for creating web sites. Check out introductory videos on YouTube.

Mark Hendricks has a simple html editor that you can try for free at...

    123 WysiWyg HTML Editor

I still use Microsoft Front Page. If you were using it before, it is still working now because that is what I'm still using today.

    I hope this is helpful,

Other then softwares you can use online form builders like WIX or Weebly? But if you insist, I can suggest you to try Notepad++. Pretty decent software in my opinion.

Adobe Muse is the easiest and full featured I have seen and they are always adding to its capabilities.

Wp plugins themselves for design can get pretty complex but some are not bad. All depends on what you want to do. You CANNOT assume that every WP plugin will work with your site building plugin.

  • It amazes me how people say WordPress is so "easy." I have tried it a bit and hated it, and found it is not really easy at all but can get very time consuming, cumbersome, and confusing. Weebly is good, but you don't want to have to pay beyond the first few pages. So, I can recommend an upgrade from FrontPage that Microsoft has released as free:

    Expression Web

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=36179

It's quite good, nicer in some ways that FrontPage was, and I use it when I'm not using something else.

The problem with WordPress is that creating sites offline is a pain.

You can do it with expression but it's still a pain.

That sounds very interesting, but when I google it, it only says it is a distribution of Apache and I do not see any mention of it being a Web authoring tool:

        https://www.google.com/search?q=Xampp

The source site says "XAMPP is an easy to install Apache distribution containing MariaDB, PHP and Perl" and the Wikipedia article does not appear to indicate having any wysiwyg authoring tool either.

Can you elaborate on that and how you use it to wysiwyg everything?

Click the Add ons button on top of the page.
          https://www.apachefriends.org/add-ons.html

You just download and install any flavor you want and it hooks right into Xampp.

Xampp has a huge following, I bet you can find a million video tutorials

You can't be serious. I could teach a really smart monkey to use WP.

OP - Most web hosts now offer 1 - click WP install from your c-Panel. Add Optimize press and you will be building so fast and easy you will be amazed.

I replied to this soon after that day, including a good and valuable criticism of the design and accessibility of the WP UI, but my post appears to have been deleted without explanation by someone else.
