Is It Just Me Or Are There More & More Warriors Doing This??

Either I'm lacking sleep or there seems to be more warriors asking questions on the forum that are easily answered if they only bothered to do a search or just some quick reading up. I would have thought the extra effort would be faster than posting and then waiting for someone to reply.

The other concern is that not all answers to a thread "are equal" as in, oftentimes if you're not careful, you end up with a "blind leading the blind" kind of situation. Whereas if I use the search function, I'm more likely to find advice from the more experienced warriors. Am I being snobbish if I choose who to listen to?

Hi Kelvin, you are not being snobbish. I guess some people just like the social interaction that comes from posting.

Pick a topic out of the air and find a forum about it, I guarantee that you will see the same thing. People asking the same questions over and over, and other, older members posting and asking why people don't use search. It's one of the constants of the Internet.

My personal theory is that it's actually healthy. It gives the newer members something that they can contribute, because they probably just asked the same question last week. Otherwise if only new questions were coming up, only the most experienced people would be able to give anything back. It also lets more knowledgeable members 'fine tune' their understanding.

They say that the last step in learning something is teaching it to others, so I guess it's good of us to provide an appropriate avenue for it.

It's probably one of the most often repeated questions. "Why don't more people use the search feature."

I think some people may not feel like searching for answers or maybe they want to get opinions from different people that did not get a chance to answer the previous threads.

The search function doesn't work right for me. I put in something and I get completely unrelated threads. So, as much as I loved the search function in the old forum, I can't get it to work here. Maybe I'm just not doing it right.

Jason: If you're searching for something with 2 words or more, have you tried using quotes (" ")? You get better results this way.

Yes, I do. Do a search for "bum marketing" and look at what comes up. I miss the great search function of the old forum.

In the future, search the title and/or tags, try with and without quotes and choose a proper section. e.g. Main forum

Being a newbie here myself, I often try the search function, but sometimes it's hard to search a "question".

If you're searching a specific item (such as a particular product), that's easy. But if you're searching for a concept, question, or idea, then that's tough.

You need to worry about other stuff, like being a helpful member and not being banned for comments like this before you worry about posting a WSO to earn your first billion.

                  Sorry back at ya Mike,

Now that I know you were kidding it is quite hilarious...

You have to take into consideration (which I'm sure you have with your funny comment) that many people are here just to up their post count for the sole purpose of launching a WSO.

I can understand that and I think the 30 post minimum is actually a good idea. I've been to many forums where people just do a quick "sales pitch" fly-by never to be seen again.

When I find a forum I like and I can learn from, I stick around for the long haul. And I try to help as much as I can when I can. I'm old school and believe in helping others when they need it.

I agree, the search function doesn't always work.

Plus, new people may not KNOW the proper terminology to do a search, BUT they are able to describe what they mean.

    All the best,
    Michael

Maybe if Warriors stopped being so helpful, people would be forced to use the search...

I doubt that's going to happen any time soon...

To give the benefit of doubt to the newbies, the thinking could be that using the search will bring up a multitude of results which one would have to wade through blindly (remember as a newbie, I don't know what a close enough answer would look like), and the folks that would answer here would be willing to help straighten things out.

As to if they were all full of B.S. or not, you still wouldn't know but at least your odds were better here of finding the right information than going through the search results.

At least one thing you can get here that you don't get from the search is how to ask and where to look.

    Matt
