HostGator Affiliate Program

I am looking to have an affiliate program with one company on my site and see that HostGator is one of the biggest and I also have a couple of sites hosted with them. It also doesn't hurt that they pay up to $125 CPA.

I had a look at their T&C - Affiliate Terms of Service - HostGator

You will receive a commission for 'active' referrals. Active is defined by clients with a website and domain name pointed to a HostGator server with user uploaded content.

I contacted HostGator to ask what user uploaded content would satisfy their requirements but they refuse to release this information.

I can't spend the time and effort to do all the marketing for this company if I don't know if i will even get paid for sending them a paying customer but the alternative I am considering is Blue Host who pay a maximum of $65 CPA.

A lot of my referrals will be content with a 3 page brochure website to advertise their small business. They won't tell me if this example is enough.

Does anybody have experience with HostGator's affiliate program and what do you think about it?

    Hey.

I've been with them a while now, and I had my doubts to.

The thing is a lot of people sign-up and don't stick with them (or pay their hosting bill) for the 3 months required to earn the commission.

I've had a lot of success with quality traffic. I earn all my commissions via youtube, and i've now starting creating videos where I help viewers build up there site over time, so they have to keep paying their hosting to benefit!

If you look at my last few comms you can see that a few are already invalid...

I think the key is to not get too excited when you get an email saying you've earned a commission. I take the number of got and divide it by 2 for a more accurate figure on what you'll get paid after 3 months..

Hey Alex. Thanks for the reply.

Just to make sure I understand properly - you get paid for about half of the people that sign up with your affiliate link?

Thats quite high compared to other figures I have seen quoted but high enough that it would still make sense to go with HostGator over BlueHost $65 CPA.

I will have to do a lot more research but some people claim that 80%+ of their referrals don't meet HostGators criteria but it didn't come from a rock solid source so I have to try to find more information from a variety of sources.

Alex might be the exception since he is making quality content on youtube and not just a hosting review type site.
I never got more than 50% of the referrals for my sites which were not a review site but I didn't have any videos either.
