Upselling subscribers to an affiliate sales page question

I'm trying to figure out the most effective and least obtrusive way to send aubscribers who have just opted in to a merchant page for an affiliate program I'm promoting.

Lets say I offer a download in resturn for opting in.

They fill out the aweber form - next they see the thankyou page

This is where I'd like to tell them to check their email to confirm and get the download I've promised them. I don't think sending them to an affiliate sales page here is appropriate, besides do I want them to go to another site or confirm their opt in to my list?

Lets say that next they check their email and confirm - they get to the confirmed page with the link to the freebie. I definitely don't want to redirect them here. Do I put another link below the download link telling them to click through to the merchant sales page?

Are there any special techniques for using subscriber action momentum to upsell them into clicking through to an affilaite merchant page?.

I know that with your own products you can offer a 1 time "you'll never see this page/offer again" but I can't do that as an affiliate.

I'm thinking of making my freebie all about how to solve x problem and how I did using the product I'm promoting. Also creating a few autoresponder messages with case studies and testimonials of the product.

This combined with a link and call to action on the confirmation/download page is the most I can think of for getting a subscriber and a sale there and then.

I'm sure there's loads I'm missing - does anyone know how to get a subscriber and a sale straight off the bat using their action momentum right after they've opted in?
