Amazon Affiliate CONFUSION - Help

Hi, I live in Canada, have both affiliate accounts in canada and the US. Canadian account didn't make a cent but in the US i made a little bit of money so i focus on the US.

But just got an email from them stating that i need to clarify that i sell only services to US to receive the money. I understand that part.


But what happens to the other traffic? ie: Canada,UK,New Zealand traffic that clicks on links and then leads to sales. I miss out?
I have heard of a plugin call Azon but how does that make a difference. You still need amazon affiliate accounts in each of these countries.

Can anyone clear this up?

    I have both UK and US amazon affiliate accounts.
    Like you, I have a mixture of visitors of different countries (Predominately US visitors, follow by UK visitors and lastly other Non-US/UK visitors from other countries) coming to my site so what I do is I used LocalAzon wordpress plugin to auto-detect these US/UK visitors coming to my site and should they read my blog and decide to click on my site's affiliate links; they will be sent to the respective Amazon US or Amazon UK. However if someone from Australia or New Zealand or Hong Kong ... if they read my blog and decide to click on my site's affiliate links ... to my own understanding ... I won't be credited for any commission should they made any purchase ...

    So if you have quite many Canadian or German visitors to your site, then you may want to open Canadian & German amazon affiliate accounts and also using plugins that have the ability to auto-detect and when they read your blog and upon their decision to click on your site's affiliate links; they will be sent to the relevant Amazon Canada or Amazon Germany.

    Hi,

    My understanding is a little different to this. If someone from NZ, Hong Kong or any other country clicks on your link that sends them to Amazon.com and they buy something from Amazon.com you are credited with the commission.

    However, if that person doesn't buy from Amazon.com and goes to Amazon.co.uk (for example) and buys a product you don't get credited with any commissions.

    A plug in like LocalAzon can help with the people moving on to another Amazon site by directing them to their local Amazon site - you'll then credited with the commission if they buy something. You do need to have an Amazon account in each country.

      Can't believe Amazon still doesn't geo target their users to land on their local Amazon site. They obviously don't put too much effort into the program. Why would they? With only a 24 hour cookie they are essentially using you and others to get as many eye balls as they can in front of their products knowing a 24 hour cookie will lead to tiny conversions within the cookie period. A powerful advertising tool.

        It is better that Amazon does not do this. Many people want to buy from an Amazon outside their own country.

        For example, Amazon.com has different products than Amazon.ca. As a Canadian, I often go to Amazon.com and not Amazon.ca to buy things.

        If Amazon automatically sent all Canadian traffic to Amazon.ca and prevented them from Accessing Amazon.com that would block a lot of sales for products you cannot get at Amazon.ca but can buy at Amazon.com

        Better to leave it to the affiliate site owners to manage their own traffic and geo targeting according to the affiliate programs they are in and the traffic they are targeting.

          Thanks for clearing it up.

          It would be so much easier if they just had one affiliate program instead of having to open an account with each country and they are all completely different entities.

          Found this out when I had to fill out their tax forms. Got a little confusing because i m in a different country.

          They should up their commissions a little bit more. On a sale of over $500, I got $20.

          I heard Walmart has uped their commission to 10%.

          Anyone having success with Walmart?

      Thanks for sharing a different insight to this issue .

      It is uplifting to know that if someone from NZ, Hong Kong or any other country that come to my site and clicks on my link that sends them to Amazon.com and they buy something from Amazon.com I will be credited with the commission. All along I have this understanding that I picked up over the years that I will not be credited ... so now it isn't the case.
