Textbooks on marketing

I'm interested in marketing, but I honestly have no idea to begin. I would like to find a textbook on the subject, but it's really difficult to find a recommendation. Most reviews for textbooks on Amazon are comments like "Got for class" or "Fast delivery", but never tell me about the content and how it would apply for self-study.

The biggest problem I've had finding a marketing textbook, or any marketing book for that matter, is that the writers of these books tend to be marketers (no surprise). A Google search for information on anything marketing returns with SEO-optimized results on new publications, and I simply don't have enough knowledge to discriminate.

My own background: I am a software engineer, and I have my own personal collection of textbooks in mathematics and computer science. I like to find books that are heavily recommended or well known in the field. These books are almost never the ones assigned for a class.

You can read through this forum or you can pay the fee and access the War Room

Regardless of what you do, take extensive notes, weigh each option carefully BASED on how much time and resources you have.

The last thing you need are rose-colored glasses.

all the information is free online, people who succeeded very well in internet marketing usually don't write books, but they do share the experience in different forums such as this one.
