Where do I find this data?

I would like to research a few niches before I start my new website. How can I find out what niches are popular? I would like to see some sales, searches and numbers related to what I'm looking for. For example if I want to sell/write about shoes, i want to first research the market for them. I know that is a broad subject but its just an example.

Im stuck on finding a new niche to brand as I have been away from all this for quite some time. I don't want to just jump in and start selling something without first knowing the market for it. Are there any general websites or tools you guys can recommend to help my research?

    Where and how you find this data is going to be related to what the niche is.

    A lot of ideas can be figured out by using Amazon for example. If you have a better idea of what it is you want to sell it's easy to go into their site and see for yourself how popular things are. That doesn't mean you have to sell via Amazon necessarily.

    Clickbank niches are easy to identify too. Just look at the popularity of a product.
