Did you learn any web design/development skills like html, css, java script, etc before starting your websites or it's just easy to start your websites using only wordpress??

It's not easy to do anything without a solid foundation, but you can certainly start building a WordPress site and figure it out as you go. Just be prepared to learn some basic HTML and CSS coding so you can do more with your site- I always recommend CodeAcademy to those starting out because it's a solid free education that you can do at your own pace.

Hi, I was able to set-up my entire site and sign-up forms with out even looking at code.

I use wordpress and I purchased a plugin called thrive themes

This way I can customize my site with click-and-drag software

and set-up my opt-in forms and even test them.

Developing a website form code by yourself is really hard.

and if you need to learn how to code before you start your website then you will spend way too much time and energy learning that and trying to figure it out..

I've tried to learn before and it really is a job on this own, like the kind of thing you go to collage for.

instead you should focused on more important things like.

      -Getting traffic
      -Blogging
      -and just marketing in general.

unless you specifically want to learn how to code for some reason,

then I recommend leaving that aside and working on things that are actually going to get you results

Just make your business as easy as you can make

and you will achieve success faster and easier.

      Hope that helped

In short: WordPress is more than enough.

People forget that it's not the website that sells, but the content, marketing strategy and offers.

      Good question....

I started back in '05 with WordPress and then went on to Learn html, css, javascript and php because I thought I should learn how to "do it right!"

Honestly though, get started by building a site and learn what you need to learn as you find out what you need to learn.

      Learning by doing!

Remember, Google is your friend (well, maybe that's not entirely true, but you get what I mean I'm sure!)

If you don't know something, ask Google/ Youtube and you'll get plenty of answers (I didn't say you'll always get the right ones!)

In the end it depends on what you need to know, but for me if you don't get started you aren't going to find out what you need to learn, just learn a broad spectrum of related skills.

      Hope that helps. Good luck!
      David

Agree with these guys. Everybody is using Wordpress nowadays. Unless you want to make something special, you can start with this platform.

Good news is, If you want to create a website without needing to know too much about HTML, CSS.... coding, most hosting provider will have WYSIWYG editor, so you can just drag and drop to build your simple website. I have used Wix.com in the past. It doesn't let you configure a lot of stuffs, not even file manager on hosting, but it let you build your website rather quickly and easily.

If you are interested to learn about web coding, I think W3Schools Online Web Tutorials should be good enough for beginner.

You don't need a domain to learn HTML, PHP, CSS, etc..., even a CMS theme for something like Wordpress can coded offline (Notepad++ & WAMP).

First of all, it's really easy to create website using WordPress. I mean, I seriously doubt that they can possible dumb things down more than they are now

However - I *would* recommend that you learn the BASICS (note: BASICS) of HTML. It does come in really useful quite often. Things such as knowing <a href... tags, knowing how to 'View Source' of a page and find something in HTML there...

    Very useful skills.

    But are they a must-have?

Absolutely not. You can create an amazing website without knowing what HTML stands for.

Now all it takes is... take action. And just do it!

    All the best,

A few hours of HTML & CSS can go a really long ways. Someone previously mentioned code academy and I'll second that.

Just take a weekend and power through the html and css modules. You aren't looking to be a master, you're looking to learn the right questions to ask when the need arises. A little effort now will save you hours of headaches in the future.

Not to mention there will come a day when you want to make a little tweak to change some aspect of your theme and you'll slap yourself silly after you spend hours wrestling with it only to find out how simple it really is.
