I need a good place to start to learn the best methods for marketing a business online. We are starting a subscription box company, and I need to learn effective ways to generate traffic. I'm running a couple of facebook ads right now and getting okay results, but need help with amping up traffic. Is there a good place for me to start learning those skills?

You came to the right place. If you use the search box here in forum, you'll find a plethora of information on any digital marketing topic. I personally also like reddit.com/r/marketing as well.

You can do a lot of online research but that may take a while. The program I used to learn how to do essentially everything online in regards to driving tons of traffic was High Traffic Academy. You can google it and it will come right up!

I've also used CB Labs which was really informational as well!

I hope that helps and good luck

The best place to start, prioritize and focus on while never taking your eye off of the prize is...

the very place you already see results.

Go slow. Be wise. and since you are seeing okay results with FB ads... by all means stay right there, and find the expert who can make you crazy successful with...FB.

Then, come back here and look for more means to your end. While always pounding out your successful FB ads.

    Have a great weekend!

Youtube can help you get a lot more traffic than other ads. Even though facebook ads are good you should start with free traffic first.

Unless your niche only applies to a very small market, your FB ads route should be able to be optimized and scaled. FB is the most targeted traffic you will find - that's why FB is making a fortune.

There are tons of blog posts about optimizing FB campaigns and new courses on doing just that come out on JV Zoo quite often. You may want to check there.

Sounds like you have a great start!

FB PPC is definitely the best way to start. I'd also recommend a blog and youtube channel that way, you can create content about what you're doing and have the opportunity to get organic traffic which is more long term and it's free. Mixing free and paid marketing is always a great way to go.

Testing, Testing and Split Testing are important when researching the best paid traffic networks for your niche. Start with small budgets and test in several platforms until you find the one that offers the best return and then ramp up on that particular network while pausing or refining the other campaigns,

With about 80% of users using an ad blocker now I think the strategy for on line ads needs to be looked at as I do not see any ads on either Facebook or Youtube

Where do your ideal customers hang out? What do they talk about? (I'll go out on a limb and guess that it isn't subscription box services )

What benefit do you offer, above and beyond the 'price of entry' benefits everyone in your space offers? Where do people looking for that benefit hang out?

Make a long list - FB pages, groups, Twitter, blogs, forums, etc.

That's where you need to be.

I've grown my facebook page from about 100 likes to around 400 likes since Friday using fb ads. We are planning on launching the box at the end of March or first of April. It is my understanding that only about 10% of the contacts we have, be they facebook likes or email addresses, will turn into orders the first time out. Is that number accurate? We are shooting for at least 1000 prospects by the time we launch.

I would highly recommend you figure out your message before you worry about traffic. Too many businesses are chasing the wrong priorities are paying the price for it.

In a recent survey by IBM, 80% of respondents said that business websites, social media and other forms of marketing in no way are relevant to their problems, needs, wants or desires.

In another study by the B2B 2015 Web Usability Report, over 50% of respondents said they leave a website almost immediately due to a lack of message.

Generating traffic is easier in general I think if you do some paid methods too. As far as coming up with strategies, I would go look up what you want on YouTube as just about anything is on there. I have learned a lot the last week just from going there and looking up what I want.

Facebook ads and other ads are not enough to get high traffic on your site.
There are many ways of getting traffic to site. You can get a well ranked site by using all marketing strategies. You have to black hat SEO, White hat SEO, guest posting, guest blogging, creating backlinks, etc. But firstly you have to learn about them. You can use SEO guides for learning these strategies.
