Install from fantastico. By default it will install itself in the top level domain, ie www.mysite.com.

It's easier than you think - go for it!

Unfortunately I dont have Fantastico

My host uses Elephante.
I have tried several times, but it keeps installing as mysite.com/wordpress

Hi Sandy -

Ask your hosting company about this.

I tried to install WP for a client, using a hosting company of their choosing. It turned out that the Hosting company in question did not permit WP to be installed in the top level domain, due to security concerns.

We ended up just doing what they allowed and the redirect so that the site loads automatically.

If you just type yourdomain.com, you are automatically sent to yourdomain.com/blog

While it wasn't what I would have preferred, it hasn't seemed to pose any problems.

Sorry - I guess I should have realised that you would have used that if you had it.

Have you read the "famous 5 minute" install instructions on the Wordpress site? They might help.

PS, No Pub? Well, there's nothing like home brew!

PPS, If you would like to do it yourself then, While your
reinstalling Wordpress, Look in the box labeled Path and Delete
the "/wordpress" then continue on as you did before when you
installed it. :rolleyes: That will place it in the root directory for you.

Important: Make sure before you reinstall Wordpress that you
have selected the proper Domain that you want it in.

I was going to say the same thing. It sounds like when your setting it up it has 'wordpress" in the path box. Uninstall wordpress if you want. Reinstall in root directory and leave path blank. Hope its that simple for you.

I can recommend the book 'WordPress For Dummies' by Lisa Sabin-Wilson. I got it from my library, and it is very useful.
You will also find a wealth of information right here on the Warrior Forum, just use the search function if you get stuck, and you will probably find the answer.

download coreftp..it's a free ftp program. Get the ftp login and password from your web host. You can then use that to upload a fresh install of wordpress 2.8.4 to your webhost

Hi sandy,

You will probably need to download wordpress and install it from scratch. It's not hard you just have to upload the files to your host, create a database, then run the install procedure. You can find the files and instructions at the wordpress site. If you have never done an install like that it may seem difficult but it's really not, just follow the instructions step by step.

There may be another way with your host but i'm not familiar with elephante so I couldn't tell you for sure. I do installs if you need some help. Hope it helps.

Install wordpress (or in your case just move all the files) into one of two places:

If you only plan on having that one site, put everything in your "public_html" folder. You currently have everything you a folder called "wordpress" that is in your public_html folder.
If you intend on having other sites, you don't need to change anything, but go to your Domain Manager. Under "redirects" set the your redirect to point to the folder "wordpress" where your blog has been installed.

The wordpress folder is the one that has the folders 'wp-admin' & 'wp-content' as well as a bunch of other files.

  The easiest way to learn instead of all the ebooks or the Wordpress (dot org) site is to go to youtube.com and type in "wordpress install," or "install wordpress." There are literally hundreds of videos that show you step by step how to install wordpress and anything else you want to know about it.
  
  That's faster than reading a book and still getting "lost!"
  
  Youtube helped me out over two years ago when I was a Wordpress newbie.
