XYZ Domains

I've registered a few domains with the xyz suffix and have heard that Google are moving to this as a result of the holding company being renamed Alphabet.

Can anyone confirm this or have I wasted my time registering xyz domains?

    Hey,

    Yes, Google has moved to .xyz because it plays nice with their alphabet brand name, abc.xyz (that's very cool domain name).

    Now, have you wasted your money and/or time? Nope!

    Any new extension gives us new possibilities. The only people who are always against new extensions are .com, .net and .org sellers.

    Take a look here for example, Megabit.xyz it's a great short name, and you could never get a .com version probably (unless you have deep pockets).

    I bought a few of .xyz as well and can tell you that those are good investment. In terms of rankings Google doesn't care if it's .com or .xyz. If you don't see them in SERPs yet it's because people are slow to change, they are accustomed .com (for now...)

    So, that's my 2c.

    I invest money in domains and haven't got a single xyz name.. it isn't just descriptive enough..

    I like 2letter country top-level domain name extensions.. (have got 7 .be 2-letter names)

    You can grab really nice names with xyz extension because it is fairly new , so not every nice name is taken . Plus xyz looks nice to me, I do not see any problem with that extension it will be considered as any other international extension after while

    Hi Findlay,


    .xyz is a top level domain name that might become popular in future. However, I would suggest you to stick to .com as of now.

    You can opt for .xyz domain only if .com domain is not available in your niche or the domain name you are looking for.

    I wouldn't buy them. I doubt that they will ever "catch on fire" in the domain reseller's world and I wouldn't build a business site on one. These kinds of extensions are for making the registrars rich. People think because they can get a dictionary word domain with a weird extension that it will sell as well as a .com, or even a .net, or .org. Not going to happen most likely.

      But how about user friendliness? Won`t it be easier for visitors to remember cars.xyz than TomSellsNiceCars.com?
      I mean, if you don`t plan on selling the domain in the future will you have any disadvantages with it?

        The average Internet user is unaware of all the different domains now available. If they arrive at the site via link, it won't matter, but remembering anything but .com and .net when they are most accustomed to domains being .com will likely confuse them. They may just automatically type in domainname .com and not even notice that it's some new weird extension. I would remember tomsellsnicecars.com over cars.xyz because I've have yet to ever hear of an .xyz used in commerce or even visited one.

    To be honest, if you put yourself in the shoes of a normal internet user, consumer or "buyer"...

    I personally would never enter my Credit Card or personal information on any .xyz domain.

    .xyz domains are cheap, and if the site owner can't afford a real domain extension, I wouldn't put my trust in the website.

    It all comes down to trust. Would you bother clicking on a .xyz domain? I mean most people don't even know .xyz domains exist and will therefore avoid it like the plague.

    I've asked people before and almost everyone says they wouldn't click on an .xyz domain, It just looks fake and untrustworthy.

      The main reason why people will be inclined not to click on these links will be the referral spam from the russian .xyz domains. But who knows? If enough big players will promote them I think they will be widely accepted.

    I've registered several of .xyz domains, mostly for launch jacking and such. They've worked so far as I've been able to rank them on page 1 of Google for various term. Can't be the cost $1.00 cost.
