How to add a recurring revenue element to your online business

Regardless of what type of online business you have you need to add a recurring revenue component to it.

Without a recurring revenue component you're leaving a ton of money on the table. And not just money on the table but passive money. Money you work for once and continue to be paid.

Recurring revenue is the key to "passive Income." And I put it in quotes because there is work required up front to create a passive income source but once it is created it can work for you for years with minimal effort.

Something that I quickly learned in this business is without having a recurring element you will burn out quick. For example:

I have put out a lot of products out in my marketplace. But I quickly noticed that when I wasn't releasing something new the income stopped. If I wasn't promoting a new offer the income stopped. This was quickly leading me down a path of complete burn-out. I had to constantly be focusing on creating the next offer.

That's not a fun place to be.

So here is a better approach and something I believe so many people are missing out on.

First, create something evergreen. When you create a product or promote an affiliate product create something that will last. Something that will be around for years to come.

Next, Find a way to automate it into a recurring income. One of the easiest ways is to set up you autoresponder to promote your already created products once they subscribe to your email list. If you want to take it a step further you can create a membership site where you add in products you create over time into a membership site.

Over time as you continue to create new offers you will start building a back-end revenue system that won't require you to keep putting out new things in order to make income.

Give it a shot and see what happens .

A great way of doing this is by promoting membership site as an affiliate

that way you do not have to actually make the membership site but you benefit form recurring income.

The best membership site to do this in my opinion is wealthy affiliate.

as a premium member you get up to $22 per month per referral. which adds up

and 1 out of 8 people upgrade to yearly. ($175 per year)

Its an amazing community to be in as well... lmao

Great point Mike! Recurring software memberships are another great way to promote recurring affiliate offers. Also, you can always add affiliate promotions to your autoresponder. Just make sure you are using evergreen offers that will be around for a while.

Ideal way to enter recurring revenue business of your own is to first build a front-end product that sells, from that customer base you will get the top 20-30% that want additional information, tools, advice, etc.. work with them to launch your recurring business so you know EXACTLY what they will want and buy.

When I started out I had a popular ebook bundle, when people purchased it they would contact me to answer additional questions, get additional advice - it eventually became onerous enough I started a membership site....the key was that I waited until the demand built naturally as a result of the front-end to come out with the membership site which meant a) I put exactly the content they wanted into the site and b) there was immediate uptake

Great advice JBsmith. I would even add that you can ask or survey people who buy your products to find out their biggest struggles. Combine that with the questions you get and you have some amazing ideas for your membership.

One of the biggest hang-ups I think people have coming into the online arena is they do so from a job mindset, or offline work mentality... Whereas, the vast majority of people show up for work, put a little time and effort in, and within 1-2 weeks they get a paycheck.

This industry requires a different mindset. You might work part-time for a year (or even a few years) enduring the learning curve. Then when the pieces begin to align and you have a foundation from which to market products and services, one good "idea" or "informative piece" - like an ebook, training series, or blog can produce sales for months or even years to come.

With today's technology, automation software, products, and services available, anyone can create an affiliate relationship and create monthly recurring revenue.

That is, if they can grasp the concept, and change their traditional thinking (or perceptions) of making money from the "head up" as opposed to the "neck down" methods the majority depend on in the traditional work environment.

After 4.5 years, I still find myself trying to break the habit of going out in the world an exchanging my time, labor, and skills for that "one off" paycheck.

As a matter of fact, I am in the middle of a tile job and complete bathroom renovation right now... And while the money is decent, I should be finishing the sales funnel and ads for my latest online project which could easily retire me from doing such menial labor jobs in the future, and would "set me free" from the typical demands, headaches, and need to find another project offline to keep money flowing.

The internet is by far my desired path, and yet when you have 30 years of trade skills and try to transition from the decades of dependency working offline into a "virtual business mindset" - it requires several changes in thinking, patience, and the courage to devote to a more longterm financial reward, then that of...

Ut oh, if I get sick, injured, or cannot be there (at work) - the money stops!

The online arena requires work, discipline, and a mental commitment... very similar to a job or small business offline, but... The big difference is; if you can master the art of marketing goods online, you can generate recurring income and not be required to "be there" once the initial path is mapped out for others to find, follow, and pursue.

I'll turn 44 in late April, my goal is to have replaced my offline income by then, and be full-time constructing sites that will retire my reliance of "doing jobs" in the old school mindset... and be turning $3.50 for every $1 invested in paid ads... Which I believe will be far more rewarding then making other people's homes look amazing.

I agree art72. Everyone is looking for the quick win and like you said it usually don't work that way in this business. That is the reason so many people jump around from on thing to the next. They are looking for something that gives them the results now and when it doesn't happen they are on to the next thing. You can cut the learning curve with focus. Pick one thing, stick to it, and improve on it until its working. Then automate the heck out of it!
