Im newbie, how to start my own e-business?

Hi, it is my first post here. I know that my question is so general, and the reply implies to learn a lot about internet and business, but i want to share my idea with you (people with more experience) to get some feedback and support.

Basically im a very experienced Olympic Weightlifting coach, and also Strength and Conditioning Expert. Recently, probably due to the growth of crossfit; interest in Olympic lifting has increased, and people are buying a lot of books and training plans, sometimes poor quality ones.

My idea is to write a book with fundaments and comprehensive training plans and sell it (ebook). Of course english is not my first language but i can pay somebody for a better translation.

In the past I have made the mistake of believing that a product or service sells well for its quality, and experience the frustration of saw other products or services sold better than mine even being a very poor quality.

I understand now that to sell you must be a good seller and understand about market.

So, what you guys think about my idea? It is possible to sell well this kind of ebooks? What is the way and how many money must i spend in ads?

Thank you for you replies

You might want to pair your book with active blogging

Blog to highlight your credibility and credentials

That's great that you want to help improve the quality of content floating around out there! There is definitely a niche for that, especially with cross fit being as popular as it is. What you should do is come up with a solution to 1 particular problem in the form of an ebook or video. You can use that to start an email list by giving it away for free in exchange for their email address (now you can send them emails whenever you want for sales and what not). Start with like $5-10 and start sending people from Facebook ads to this offer….

Once your email list is being built for you, you can then offer your ebook for sale to them….I would probably put it on Amazon as well though.

And as previously mentioned, you should start a blog with a lot of content so people start to know like and trust you…it's a lot easier to get somebody to pay you money if they know, like and trust you!

I hope that helps and good luck!

Yes there is a lot of crap content out there and what they have going for them is good sales copy and lot's of people to promote for them.
I agree a blog will be great and also maybe a video channel where you can show them lot's of right ways to train. You can offer an excerpt from the book or perhaps a short report with a training log or something on it.
You may also think about setting up a facebook page where you can showcase your successes. People love cross fit and these pages are very popular. Post your videos to here and they will get shared. Set up the lead capture page and put the link in the description of the You Tube videos. There are a few steps to learn but you can get people to help you do this (outsources) Once your system is set up it will run almost on autopilot building your list. You can use the autoresponder to send out messages and soon you will have a tribe of people following you and wanting your quality information.
Good luck with it all. I am sure you will go well
Know Like and Trust is very important

Start a facebook fanpage, google hangout, a blog and a video channel like coffeediva suggest, talk about the athlete/s you train, what they have achieved, show videos about their training, give a few free cross training tips. Interact with your visitors, they will become your source of information about what the market is looking for, and they will become your partner in putting together and marketing your products.

Sometimes, what we want to write about is not what the market want. We may think that they need our knowledge, but the truth is they will buy what they want.

I think the best format is Video, ebook is supplement.

If you're selling your information as ebooks, I would advise you to use Amazon's Kindle Publishing platform.

If not, your information would fetch a far higher price in the form of video tutorials hosted on a membership site (I've seen a lot of marketers use WishList software when selling membership-type products).

Well, I'm glad that you learned that lesson, it's a harsh reality but at least you know what you need to work on.

Focus on creating good content (which you clearly have the knowledge for), get a good sales page made (you can hire someone), and learn some basic marketing, then work your way up from there.

I wish you the best on your journey,

Correct, and supplant that with Instagram and Facebook marketing - fitness products and brands are doing very well on Instagram these days. You can start by uploading and linking your content and then, when you get closer to launching your product, run ads to capture specific interest group attention.

Instead of the ebook, you may want to consider a video course - they tend to lend themselves very well to fitness, strength training niches. You can put them behind a paywall and earn recurring revenue or sell it as a one-time video course...choice is ultimately up to you.

I think you have the right idea as far as the Olympic Games just around the corner.

I would be establishing a base, such as a blog, where people can get to know you as an

expert in your niche. Post articles to your blog and article directories and be active on

forums that are related to your weightlifting niche so people get to know you.

I would be doing some paid advertising, maybe on Facebook using Audience Insights so that

you are targeting the right people that are going to be interested in your prroduct.

already you have a good argument to be exhibited is the first step.
As mentioned previously, the blog is critical, you can use wordpress, then you could rely for example also yahooanswer, you can write answers about your topic, then posting the link to your blog.
You can also try sites like Lulu.com or Broopen are real editorweb and you can publish your ebook with ease.
The ebook must have original items contained, and the right keywords, creating a professional cover and request to register on your mailing list before buying, do not be discouraged, it will take time, but you'll get your results, good luck

There will always be a Niche for Weight Lifting and Strength Training. I would definitely not discard this.

If you have quality products to offer in this regard then it is just about Marketing and Promotion and learning how to do those effectively. Like others have said starting a Blog is a good route to go.

Yeah I keep up with both sports. He's very accomplished golfer with Players Championship win a few years back. And he could squat 350 pounds as a 95-pound 13-year-old teenager.

If you're that experienced, I would have a blog to share your story, knowledge (not all of it) and experiences. I would also start a youtube channel. That way, you can start creating traffic, build a list which then turns into your following and you can start making sales.

Any successful online business always starts with value. If you have something of value to offer to your audience at first, you will attract tons of people and building a list will be easy. If you start with selling something, expect lower conversions and a harder time building something.

I would also recommend you having a facebook page that people can like and an Instagram profile. You should also update these profiles consistently with high quality content.

Just be consistent and always work on yourself meaning don't be hesitant when it comes to investing in your education. The internet changes daily. It will never be the same. You should never be the same as well and consistently work on gaining new knowledge that will help you create progress and growth for your online business.

    Dude, you got the skills.

The only thing I believe you need to be careful with is creating a product that doesn't have enough demand. I mean, people might not want to be able to Olympic Lift but they might want to have more explosive power to jump high, run faster, hit harder... blah blah blah.

It's that old thing... no one wants a drill. They want a hole.

Perhaps check out the biggest problems Crossfitters (for example) are having with their lifts and address that.

Like, do they really need a course on the technique if they're going to a box where they should already be getting coached? Or do they need help breaking plateau's or performing better for the games. The base information might all be the same... it's just the angle your course is presented at.

There's an awesome interview with Tyler Bramlett on Kevin Roger's "Truth About Marketing" podcast you should listen to that would help.

Thank you for your advice. Of course i think starting my blog by posting general strength and conditioning articles, not only olympic weightlifting ones, because as you say, this is just a very specific trining area.

In the other hand, i was thinking that my first ebooks maybe about weightlifting, because this is my main area, and beacuse i think i can offer something good and different; but after this maybe i will keep selling more ebooks about strength training.

Big Al brings up an excellent point. How can you break down weight lifting even further so there are multiple niches that can be used to expand the marketing possibilities? Increase vertical jumping for basketball/volleyball players? Bodybuilding for men and for women? Strength training?

How about weight loss (men and women)? Weight gain (men and women)? That's four opportunities for targeted courses.

Also, add in things like nutrition for each opportunity. There's a number of affiliate programs for nutrition that you can use to sell to your list of customers through email lists.

You probably won't make a lot of money from your first effort. But if you can come up with a number of products, your chances of success will greatly increase.

First, congratulations on wanting to help people. The more people you help get what they want, the faster you will get what you want.

As a "very experienced Olympic Weightlifting coach, and also Strength and Conditioning Expert" you should make sure you include as many testimonials from those you have coached and shared your expertise with. Testimonials go a long way in separating you from the poor quality material you spoke of.

Just a thought I wanted to add to the other great ideas already mentioned...

It's definitely a good idea and the ebook can sell well if you bring the right kind of people to your sales page. I personally know someone who does great in this niche (Mike Westerdal). You can see his products and affiliate tools at this link.

You can get inspired by his products and sales pages, but of course try to bring something new and different to the market.

It isn't so much being a "good seller" as being able to plug into a distribution system. You can have the greatest product in the world, but as you've noticed if it doesn't get in front of anybody you don't make any sales.

You have a great foundation to build on, and that it competency in your knowledge area. Build on that. Look where people are already buying similar or related products. Find the traffic sources those sellers are using. You don't need to reinvent the wheel here. People are already selling tons of products in your niche. Just get in front of them.

Relax about the quality of your product. You have that handled already. Put your attention on how you are going to get awareness that you and your product exist in front of your target market.

If I were you, I wouldn't tap out at the ebook level. That's the lowest level of solution you can provide. What about a video course? Think "value stack".

With your knowledge, skills and experience; you can package that into an ebook and make a lot of money from it. You may want to create a membership site too like what Mike Geary did in his high converting site truthaboutabs.com . Register your product with clickbank and let us promote your product to those hungry buyers who need what you have to serve to them and we can all make money from that! Go for it! You got a profitable niche!

Personally I feel that self-marketing is essential. As you said, even the poor quality books in your niche are selling more simply because they are better marketed.

One harsh reality I discovered since joining the internet marketing and sales world is... Rather than being the best in your niche...It is actually better and more beneficial to be "known as the best"

Being the best at something or having the best quality doesn't matter much if no one knows. So really we have to sort of govern the stories being spreaded in our niche about us from person to person that "we are the best, or we have the best quality" ...that comes from self marketing.

Now it is also important to back that up of course for credibility...but if no one knows...then it doesn't make a difference in the first place.

Sounds like your clear on it!

You have a high demand marketplace. Like you said its your content that you deliver. Put it together and test each phase. Start small with your testing paying attention to what is happening and optimize your setup for the best return. It's a all a numbers game in this industry. That's what I love about it. It's predictable at this point.

Id start off building myself a targeted list. That's the easy part. Especially with your experience on the niche phase of things. People will spit out their email and or name faster than they will their credit card. Give something of strong value away having the product sell your main product or service without you really having to sell. Follow. Your free offer is so good and its optimized to lead into your monetization process which is a low cost to entry sale. Something under $75. Under $30 if your new to all of this eventually lead yourself into going to people places and working with them one on one. That's at least 4 to 5 figures to start with when you get there. Have a passion for what you do.
