    I got a .net .com and a .org all ranked first page on google as we speak.

    I dont think it makes a difference, unless i just got lucky but i have really good content and nice established backlinks.

    There is no basic different between .com or .net Domain & it has no connection on SEO. So don,t worry and go ahead for maintaining SEO friendly site you should first learn about google panda and penguin update. Moreover On page SEO is the key to get ranked quickly.

    The problem is not with SEO, as others have pointed out, but with type-in traffic. Some people will enter the domain name and then the ".com" extension because that's the most popular one. So if you own the ".net" domain name, but your competitors owns the ".com" version, you might send them a little bit of free traffic.

      ^^This is very true.

      And despite what people are saying above, I always try to stick with .com when doing SEO on a website. I've ranked a lot of websites and always had more success with .com's.

    .com, .net & .org all works same in search engines. .com is a famous TLD due to which every body likes it. But if your desired domain name with .com is already registered then you can also go with .net and .org. The main thing which perform in search engines are content and link building. If the content of your site is good, unique and engaging then it doesn't matter which TLD you are using.

    .org is the best lol, just kidding, it been a long way since extension matter.

    For old school like me .com , .net and .org mattered not for the SEO part but because we grow up with them and they are my 1st assumption, today, u can use pretty much anything, google wouldn't discriminate your domain for its extension

    Hi Andrew,

    .net domain is good. However, it is always advisable to go for a .com domain, as it is more recognizable across the globe. Moreover, .com domain is more SEO friendly with more chances to be seen.

    .com is better. But if you do all of the SEO works in the right ways all other extensions will rank high on the SERP.

    Thank you so much everyone for your valuable feedback, but I also think that it will make no difference for SEO point of view but this is also right that when people type domain name in URL box, they generally put .com so ".com" has an ultimate advantage.

      I think both Mike and Lucian are right

      .com is and will ALWAYS be the first thing coming to mind when people type in an address.

      But SEO makes no difference

    .com always as it has some a slighter high authority over .net. If .com is available go for it.

    I always go for .com first and .net is my second choice. I think people always think of .com first when typing. But, I would not hesitate to buy .net.

    Your question has already been addressed but when preparing for future strategies here's a couple things that haven't been mentioned:

    1. When selling established websites, a .net historically brings at least 25% less
    2. When approaching powerhouse news outlets like ABC / Entrepreneur / Inc. you will have better results with a .com domain. (Of course the most important part in media is that your "brand" is passes the speaking test)

    Cheers,

      Andrew,

      I used to buy all sorts of domain extensions including .com, .net, .org, etc.

      Now, I only register dot com domain names.

      I doubt there is any SEO difference for the various extensions ... however,

      there are a lot of other reasons why I stick with dot com.
      • All other things being equal, it is the most recognized and valuable domain extension - which is important if you ever sell your domain;
      • Dot com is officially designated for commercial enterprises. If you plan to sell anything online, it's the extension you should own;
      • Dot com is the "default" extension. When someone types your domain name into a search bar, you want your domain to come up - not someone elses in your same niche;
      • Dot com is more professional for a business - I know this is a bias I have, but so do most other people. Established businesses mostly use dot com names - there are exceptions, of course.
      • I don't buy the argument that there are no good dot com names left. In fact, that argument supports my assertion that you really do need to have a dot com.
      Don't settle for a dot net or anything else! Get creative and use Impossibility or Lean Domain Search and you can easily find a great short dot com name. There are many very good dot com domain names available to register right now!

    The .com is for Commercial purpose on the flip side the .net is for network site. If you would like to use this site for your business you can use the .com domian. Though the .com domain cost is high than the .net, but it is more & more good than the .net. Thanks for your advance.

    .com is much better and easy to understand.
    Plus they have more monetary value than .net

    It really makes no difference in my view.

    I personally would go for a .COM all the time every time.

    Everyone recognizes this extension more then any other in the market.

      What is not easy to understand about dot net? Also, A domain is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I could be convinced for example to want to purchase "fishing.net" for more money than "fishing.com" - although this is just one example. And it's entirely possible to rank a dot net over a dot com.

      So is this because most everyone is just buying dot coms or is it that people with those other extensions don't know how to rank them?

      In general I do believe the dot coms will be purchased first - giving them a head start on getting built and getting the ranking. But according to google .net and .com all get the same rules along with many others. https://googlewebmastercentral.blogs...top-level.html

    Dot com refers to Commercial business off/online. So dot com supposed to be presenting commercial companies with big branding names.

    Dot net refers to Network organizations that commonly provide internet services such as web hosting.

    However in terms of seo or getting high page rank. they both are equals and the most important factor is that is the website filled with high quality content for its visitors? Also backlinks play important role on search engine game.

    One of my main products is .net based and haven't had a single problem with it.

    I prefer to get the .com since it's the most popular. But the .net is almost as good as the .com. In terms of SEO as long as you have backlinks you'll be fine with the .com or the .net.
