I just registered a very good domain... but Google didn't like it :(

Last week, I registered a very good celebrity-related domain. I did not checked the domain history and just grabbed it when I found out that it was available...

In 5 days, I posted 12 articles and started to monetized with adsense. After more than 24 hours of waiting, still no adsense.... I checked the domain history and someone owned it before.

I contacted adsense support through email and within 2 hours I got a response telling me that "yes, the domain was suspended before".

I asked them what am I going to do, and the support told me to redesign the site, fill more content, and contact them again....

I hope this problem will get sorted out because the domain has a huge value when a developed site is hosted with it...

I am thankful now that google responds faster even through email...

Google must have already found out that the domain name has a new owner, otherwise you could have had your Adsense account suspended.

    Thanks for saharing!

I would be careful with celebrity related domains. Not sure if it is an actual Name or not. But even if it just infers the likeness of a celebrity, there could be legal ramifications ( I'm not an attorney so take it wtih a grain of salt)

In addition, like using a trademark you do not own, this may violate Google AdSense ToS.

It could be the reason it was suspended before and it could put your account at risk now.

In addition to their recommendation to build out content, you should ensure that the domain name itself is in compliance with AdSense ToS.

OP said Google support told her to redesign the site, add content, contact them again, so, it's not the domain name itself that's their issue but the content that was there before the OP bought the domain.

OP, I'd do what Google says.

OP, I'd do what Google says.

You should be very careful assuming Google automatically does all your research for you.

Very often one Google rep will contradict another (if you have ever talked to them). That is one of the problems with Google; they are not always clear about what the real issues are even if they offer advice.

She did not say whether she specifically asked about the domain name itself and the relation to the celebrity. My advice was to explicitly ask to make sure it isn't an issue. It is hard to tell because she just said "celebrity related" so it may not contain any potential trade terms in the domain name itself.

Google's advice to "redesign the site, fill more content, and contact them again" is very generic advice that they offer to almost everyone contacting them about a formerly suspended site. It gives no indication they even looked at the site in any meaningful way.

She could very well spend months building out the site and contact Google again only to have them tell her some other problem with the site.

            DABK,

The domain name, as you have stated, is not Google's issue . . .

            However,

What discrat and onSubie are trying to alert the OP about is potentially a greater and more costly issue to the domain owner than Google refusing the site for Adsense.

What they are talking about is profiting from a celebrity name in the domain that the OP has registered. Profiting from a name that has been trademarked or a tradename registered can be a very weighty legal matter for the domain owner.

If I were the OP, I would get rid of the domain before the potential risks become reality.

When I find a domain and realize that it is having problems being accepted for adsense, I just look for another one. Even if it is the best domain name, I do not waste my energy populating it just to realize I have problems with it later on... I felt with that issue once and learned a big lesson in the hard way... luckily you have realized soon about it...

You're lucky to have received a response and that quickly. They usually
send you a canned answers that basically says, "Read our rules and figure
    it out for yourself."

Adsense is too strict these days, be careful with new domains while playing with them.
