Any Wordpress experts Here? - Need help - My posts do not show up on the Home Page

I just uploaded a post on one of my wordpress blogs. I created a category and added the post to that category as well. When I published the post, I have to click on the category link to see the post.

But for whatever reason, the post does NOT appear on the home page. I don't have the sticky post setting on.

Does anyone know what the problem might be? I checked wordpress.com and there wasn't any help there. Since a lot of people here use wordpress and know php, I was hoping that someone can help me.

Thanks.

OK cant see anything obvious, ie posts set to white text or something.

You need to check all the settings in wordpress admin area dashboard. Just rechecking now to see if ive missed the obvious.

I checked the settings and they are correct, unless there is something I'm missing.

    I checked the following:

Reading is set to front page latest posts.
The post itself is set to public.

    Thanks.

I know this sounds dumb, but did you try leaving it on the default (both unchecked)? The only time I select one is when I want to set a static homepage. If not the posts should be automatically on the homepage.

Nothing sounds dumb. When you refer to leaving both on default, what are you referring to?

        Thanks.

The post and page as the homepage option are both unselected when you install Wordpress. Whenever I use the most recent post as the homepage I leave both unchecked and it defaults to the post.

It could be a date setting problem? How many of the latest posts show on your home page? Sure you made a new post rather than a new page?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[1098776].message }}

Yes I did create a post and added it to a category. The date shows up on the post right, today's date. Thanks for helping. Does anyone else have any other ideas?

      Thank you.

Could be that the template you are using doesn't have the coding where blog posts are inserted into the Home page.

    What template are you using?

      I was wondering about that.

Where do I find the coding for the home page?

One more thing, I just figured out that the posts that are located inside the "uncategorized" category SHOW UP on the home page but if I put the post inside of a created category, they only appear inside the category and NOT on the home page.

      Thanks,

    (1) Delete your 2nd category (the one you created).

    (2) Rename the Uncategorized category to what your 2nd category was called.

    (3) Now, go to Posts > and click to Edit your post. Find the Category box, and make sure the newly-renamed category is selected. If it's not, select it.

    (4) Click the Publish button.

(What you have done is changed the post's assigned category to the one you just renamed.)

    (5) Now go to the home page. Does your post appear?

      UPDATE:

I went ahead and changed the categories as suggested by Matt and it WORKED! I renamed the uncategorized category and it is showing up fine. My worry is that once I create a new category, the posts within that category will not show up.

      Does anyone have any ideas?

      Thanks,

I'll need to view the code of your Wordpress blog files...

I have a hunch about what's wrong with it, but I can't really tell until I access your server and view the codes myself.

PM me if you still need help.

You could have any number of issues going on - bouncing around from this to that like a pinball is going to do nothing but give you a headache.

#1 - is your problem plugin related? Deactivate all of your plugins and see if behavior is the same. If not, activate plugins until the error comes back. You'll be on the road to finding your culprit.

#2 - is the problem theme related? If deactivating plugins doesn't work, activate the default theme that comes packaged with WP. If your posts show up, then you have a theme problem. If they don't show up, the problem is not minor - you'll need to start from scratch ( delete all files and database and reinstall ) or hire a WP professional to look at it for you. Expect that to cost at least $50.

If you have a theme problem, locate a WP pro who can look at the theme files for you. Someone who knows WP should be able to spot a problem if there is one within a few minutes. At the very least, they can install on their own testing server and try to recreate your issues.

If you post the lurl of your site we could take a look at it and provide better answers.

If you are referring to the Agent theme by StudioPress, they have an incredible support forum with all the answers.

There is a setting in the Theme Options to select which categories will show on the home page. You need to set that to whatever category you want.

      Thanks VegasGreg,

I really appreciate your help and I think I got it solved.

Question for you, since it looks like you can only select one category, does this mean that only one category can be featured on the home page?

You can go into the WP editor and edit the home.php code. You can remove the Theme Option coding and just hard code the categories you want (EX: cat=3,5,7) or show all categories (cat= ). I don't have that theme in front of me at the moment so I can't copy the exact code that you need to replace, but it should be simple to find.

I think the newer versions of their themes will have the built in option to show all categories from the Theme Options settins, but they didn't all start that way.
