I'm new, could use advice, sports betting blog
I've been lurking around for some time now but haven't registered until today!
I'd like to get some opinions and advice about this idea.
About a year ago I created a free blog(blogger) where I posted my betting tips(zero other content), did close to no advertising (I just mentioned it on 2 forums and kept a link in my signature). I was averaging about 100 views daily the first 1.5 months and half of that during 2 next months, then I stopped posting and views dropped eventually. The only problem is that I have no idea how much of it were unique views. I don't know if there numbers were good, but I was pretty happy considering I didn't do much to let people know about the blog.
What I know about the traffic is that 99% of it was targeted and huge majority(85%) were the same people coming back.
I have a similar idea now, but this time I'll try to monetize it and add more content than just betting tips. The most common thing would be membership/monthly subscription and that's something I'm interested in, though not as greedy rates as some go (50$ for one tip, seriously?). I'm still looking for other creative ways to monetize it, I already have few ideas too. I'm thinking about keeping it ad less so no AdSense or anything similar.
While I want to make money off this blog I also want to that people pay me for quality and because they trust me. My old blog was very one-sided, I got one comment under a post in 4 months, I'm hoping that more varied content and addition of social media will change that.
So what are the "problems"?
- I'm actually broke, my budget for this is 0, that's why I'm gonna use free blogging again, this time probably Wordpress instead of Blogger, I just heard it's better and more people seem to recommend it. I'm wondering if Wordpress is counting unique views on its own or do I have to do something to get this data? I'd appreciate if anyone told me if it's better to use Blogger or Wordpress in this case and why. If the blog will be doing well I'll eventually move it to a premium host and better domain at some time in the future but have to settle with this for the time being.
- No experience, this is actually the first time I'll be attempting to make money online this way, I don't even know if I'm ever gonna make a buck off this blog but I'm keeping positive I have a general idea about different areas of internet marketing but I still have much to learn. Would be great if you guys could let me know what should I focus on, my idea is to focus on education about social marketing and mailing lists, I'm reading everywhere that mailing list is a must and while I never had one I can see the potential and couldn't agree more.
I'm not sure how good is this idea and if I haven't revealed too much but I believe I can make it work for me so I'm not really scared to expose it a little bit
