For years I've had blogs of some of my clients spammed like the example below. I always thought to myself that there is no way that these could be bring in leads for seo...backlinking bot maybe....Now I'm thinking that they may work some how consider they've been done like this for years now.

Can someone please explain why this is going on still with all the plugins tha would block just comments? I'm assuming they work on people that don't know how to use a wp plugin and need help with SEO, Admin work, etc...

Example of some recent comment spam one of my sites:

Hello Web Admin, I noticed that your On-Page SEO is is missing a few factors, for one you do not use all three H tags in your post, also I notice that you are not using bold or italics properly in your SEO optimization. On-Page SEO means more now than ever since the new Google update: Panda. No longer are backlinks and simply pinging or sending out a RSS feed the key to getting Google PageRank or Alexa Rankings, You now NEED On-Page SEO. So what is good On-Page SEO?First your keyword must appear in the title. Then it must appear in the URL.You have to optimize your keyword and make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article with relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing). Then you should spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article.Your Keyword should appear in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page. You should have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword. There should be one internal link to a page on your blog and you should have one image with an alt tag that has your keyword....wait there's even more Now what if i told you there was a simple Wordpress plugin that does all the On-Page SEO, and automatically for you? That's right AUTOMATICALLY, just watch this 4minute video for more information at. <a href=" CashCampV3" rel="nofollow">Seo Plugin</a>

It's probably not the same person doing it for years. It's different schmucks that get the idea and think they're going to rake it in by spamming poor blog owners.

And just because you see someone else doing it, doesn't mean it's working.

Good Point.... I really don't see how its even considered to be a business model of any kind.. even if it's goal is to make a few quick bucks. Just stupid.

People still fall for the Nigerian princess and rich uncle scams, so it may work every once in a while.

Not how I'd want to build my business, though.

When I was young and dumb 8 years ago I signed up for one of those backlinking blog spams.

I didn't realize how useless it was and how counterproductive it was and just how unethical it was.

We have learned a lot in the last few years but the snake oil salesmen will be hawking useless products to infinity

It definitely looks like people trying to make money off of people who don't know what they're doing with their blogs. I'm sure that everybody and their mothers would be on the same page of being annoyed if they kept receiving that junk…..

    Just saying!

It's an excellent business model if you're the guy selling the spam campaigns. Unethical as hell, but those scumbags aren't worried about ethics anyway.

They're right up there with the PI lawyers squealing about getting you the justice you deserve, without telling you that they will be taking half of it.
