Default Rent-a-Site Fees-Has $5k Been Done?

Has anyone created a site for an offline business, got it ranking well, and then charged at least $5K per month for it?

I'm just wondering if this is being done, because I am now beginning to work in this area of IM, and I want to keep my expectation levels in check.

Thanks.

I've been experimenting with this method a little lately too, and I've been finding (maybe it's my pitch) that people expect to see a return of at least what they're paying in rent per month or it's not worth it to them...

So, if you can create a site that meets your clients ROI then theoretically it should be worth it to them.

I've got a client that I'm trying to work with right now that makes about 3500 per sale. According to their metrics it takes them about 29 leads to convert 1 sale... so if I can get them (theoretically) 29 leads per month from my site, they'll make 1 sale.

Their desired ROI is 3:1 (make $3 for every $1 spent) so if I can make them 1 sale a month, they should be willing to pay me $1166.66 a month for that site and still hit their target.

Again, this is all theoretic so far. Also, keep in mind that they are in a REALLY obscure niche, so 29 leads per month is going to be a little harder than it sounds.

I've found that it's all about making it work with THE CLIENTS metrics (i.e. if they want exposure, uniques matter; if they want production, conversions matter; either way whatever THEY determine to be success is what matters)... make it make sense TO THEM and you can sell just about anything you want.

You know what's really said about that statement?
Offline businesses will spend money on all kinds
of offline ads, the biggest being yellow pages and
the will have no idea what their ROI is.

But a website has to pay for itself!

I am not saying it shouldn't. But why are many of them
so careless in all of their other advertising?

What a minute, I know, because that's branding.

They drive me nuts I tell ya.
