Earn money from cartoons?

Hi. I'm a beginner working on a travel blog but am also wondering if it's possible to make money off animated cartoons. What if I can't draw and have to use a site like goanimate? I realize it's poor quality but the cartoon's strengths would be the story and characters. I wouldn't be asking this question but I saw some really bad goanimate vids on youtube and they had a ton of views. Perhaps they are so bad they are good? Seeing the high view counts made me think it might be possible.

What do you think? No chance?

    Hey there,

Start a cartoon blog of your own where you post different cartoons accompanied with related content on a daily basis.

Promote the same on social media extensively to get traction.

Have you ever seen the "asdf" youtube series?

Its an animated cartoon. Pretty basic. Nothing special. The only reason why its getting a lot of views is the content. Its funny and random. There are few who can pull this off. I suggest you roam around for some more ideas in that way you can cook your own. Also try making cartoons that related to whats going on - think; oil price drops or whatever. Satirical cartoons are pretty great.

Cartooning or having drawing skill is a very plus point for all time. You can nowadays make a lot money by making nice animated cartoons. And if you know some graphic design works, UI, UX works, you surely dominate in money earning.

As long as you take action and make an effort to learn the process of this venture it can be successful. It may seem hard at first but if you stick to it you will begin to see results.

Also, marketing is a huge factor as well, some of the videos like you have pointed out are not animated professionally but is still able to attain views, this can be done if they targeting the right demographic and audience.

Create a character that a certain group of people love and expand from there. If there's an opportunity to partner with sponsors after you gain popularity the sky is the limit.

Animation quality is irrelevant. If the CONTENT is good, you're golden.

    Thanks all.

I want to do a silly sci-fi series. Thoughts on that?

I'm also considering the kindle short story route. Is this a better idea? I'd like thoughts before I pay the $40 to join the forum here.

Both sound like fun alternatives to work on after I'm done working on my travel blog for the day.Not sure I'd have time for both.

The chances are all there, all you need to do is to be more creative and initiative. Knowledge about cartoons is very important so start searching and reading more cartoons so that once someone is asking you to do so, you can do it right away. Also, try to get some ideas on youtube.

    Hi ender36,

Here's a 'cartoon creation' website I've used quite often.
Have not used it to make money, so can't speak to that.

But, I have used it for web headers, banners, facebook posts, etc.
Gotten real good feedback from them.

Other than my software development company, I also have a TV & New Media content distribution company.

We sell animation content worldwide to broadcasters, MNOs and VOD platforms. Yes, there is definitely a market for good quality animated cartoons.

We just got on the #1 VOD platform in China with some animations. It's like any business, you have to create good quality product and learn to market it.

That doesn't prove anything. You can buy YT views really cheap.

Just because a video has a high view count doesn't mean real people are watching. I would be more interested in the amount and type of comments.

  • You don't have to be a professional. If you have a good idea for a story then the quality of the drawings are not the most important part. Train yourself and become better if that's what you want and the world is yours. You could sell business templates for example. You could create mascots logos, t-shirts, posters etc etc.
