Need help finding WP siloing plugin???

Can somebody help me with this, I heard that if you silo structure your site it is better, so is there a plugin that does this or a nice tutorial on how to do this? I am still learning here, but hope to tap into the geniuses in this forum.

Thanks

Dave

You don't need a plugin. Silo structure is already buildt into wp. That's what the categories and posts are for.

You have your top level: pages
    Secondary: categories
    Then the actual posts

Its faster to type "Wordpress Siloing Plugin" into Google than type a whole post. :-)

Results = SEO Siloing WordPress Plugin

It was last updated in 2007, probably because WP now has the structure built in as mentioned above, but some people may still have a unique use for it.

Hi Dave, you can silo by using page/sub page; category/sub category, posts/categories plugins, inseries plugin, organize plugin etc lots of things that you can do but from what I've heard the plugin that Dan Raine (from 30DC) is releasing called WordPress Silo is meant to be pretty good. There are two sort of downsides ...the first is that it hasn't been released to the general public yet and the second is that I believe it will be paid plugin.

I made the mistake of clicking through to read your "review" of Dan's plugin

You fool a reader into thinking you have actually reviewed it, but clicking either video thumb takes you to Dan's site with an affiliate link.

In some ways fair enough, but Dan't site doesn't explain anything either.

Your site mentions LSI, which to me suggests you don't actually know much about the topic, only what you have read elsewhere by people selling you stuff.

Here are some fun research links for you

    1. Phrase based indexing and retrieval methods
    2. Probabilistic latent semantic analysis
    3. Latent Dirichlet allocation
    4. Hidden Topic Markov Models

It is quite correct there are tons of ways to silo using WordPress though siloing is a little over rated anyway.

It is kind of funny because Dan's last plugin was for creating RSS feeds for every post, but WP already can do that without using a plugin, and to make them a little more useful only takes a few lines of php in functions.php.

Firstly, the videos are installation and explanation videos that Dan provides when you purchase the product. I don't understand why anyone would attempt to click through to an instructional video on how to install a plugin THEY DON'T HAVE.

Thank you for the resources on LSI, I am sure some people will find them useful, however, I am very well-versed already.

Each and everyone of us is entitled to their opinions on siloing/theming, however, this thread is entitled "Need help finding WP siloing plugin???" and the answer I gave addressed that question.

Actually, I did the same exact thing clicking on the videos... Because I wanted more information about what it could do for me, and what the interface looked like. Especially since on your site you have (including the typo):
"Watch the two videos below to learn about what the Silo Structure can do for you and how to install and user the Wordpress Silo plugin."

Not really bitching about it, it's a decent click through tactic I suppose, but I felt cheated when I clicked and got redirected instead of got a video.. Especially because I AM interested in the plugin and DO want more information. Probably not the best way to convert someone into a buyer. Just a thought.

          @Mr2Monster

Point taken with the screen capture of the videos, I've removed them to avoid any further confusion. I thought it would be useful for people to know that all the information they need is available in the videos provided with the plugin, but perhaps including the captures was not the best way to go about it. It was not designed to be a 'tactic' although I appreciate it may have seemed that way.

Over the next day or so, I will redeem myself by providing an overview of the contents of the videos on the blog. I can't take responsibility for the typo you mentioned...that was in the capture!

Also, I might mention @JAAffiliates that you're not supposed to post affiliate links directly in the forum like you did in your first post.

    Those resources weren't about LSI

    Google doesn't use LSI

If you use terms like LSI connected with SEO you might give my mate Dave a hernia or end up on a post like this one on SEO bull****.
    http://seobull****.com/seo-myths-lsi-google/
(That is where I grabbed those links from)

What the "WordPress Silo Plugin" is doing isn't classic siloing but third level push.
Dynamic Linking & Nofollow – Practical Examples, Diagrams, + FAQs
Third Level Push (modified Siloing) For Deeper Index Penetration | Half’s SEO Notebook

The thing is that the authors of both of those posts ( Dan Thies & Halfdeck ) as far as I know, don't recommend the use of nofollow for PageRank sculpting these days.
If there was a major switch of opinion on that I would have heard about it by now.

Best is to use intelligent information architecture
It is possible to use some forms of javascript or AJAX, though that has other issues most notably accessibility.
It is also possible to do things such that search engines don't see most of the links - this is done by many forums.

Nofollow does not block crawling or content discovery, so suggesting the WP Silo plugin somehow controls bots and how they discover content is a falacy.
PageRank may also evaporate these days, according to Matt Cutts, but he hasn't yet explained what happens to it, nor extrapolated on the "reset vector" terminology he used last year.

p.s. some lawyer from Automattic is going to have fun grabbing those domains for registered trademark infringement some day.

The WordPress Siloing Plugin is without doubt not the first plugin to do this - there are lots of others which combined or even on their own can achieve the same or better effect.

What the plugin seems to be doing can be done easily with existing free plugins

Though from a user and SEO perspective you would probably be better off using a combination of (or as an additional feature)

Though you could just use categories combined with CQS Reloaded if they have lots of posts in them

Whatever is happening with juice that "evaporates" from nofollowed links, you certainly don't achieve the level of control that is being suggested even in the best case scenario.

I will finish with a little quote from Dave

You have been warned; the ignorant, short sighted or snake oil peddlers professing LSI and Google, will get the smack from this author!! - unless yer talking about AdSense...
