Default Clarification about keywords

I have a question I'll put in the form of a hypothetical:

Say you want to promote your spaghetti sauce online. From your research, it's evident that you can achieve #1 in Google for "spaghetti" OR for "spaghetti sauce." However, you don't have time to go for both of these -- which one should you go for?

If you get #1 for "spaghetti," where will that typically rank when people search "spaghetti sauce." Will it likely be #1 as well.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Go for Spaghetti sauce - that's what you're selling and people searching for it will be more targeted - You won't rank #1 for it by going for Spaghetti on its own.

think about what people are searching for. Most likely, the ones typing in spaghetti are looking for all things spaghetti (home made noodles, sauce recipes or the band called spaghetti). As the previous posts said, you want to target better. 'Spaghettie sauce' or 'best spaghetti sauce'.

Andy knows his stuff. Listen to him.

Also, you're on the right track about how to think of this stuff. You don't want to waste your valuable time trying to get ranked for terms that are not getting searched often enough at Google. You should first learn how to build a useful list of keywords related to your niche. Try https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal if you haven't already.

Well, spaghetti sauce is a more focused searched item, therefore go for spaghetti sauce.

Well first focus on ranking for the keyword your product is about. Then you can rank for other keywords
