Latent Semantic Indexing: Semantics is language analysis as related to meaning. Search engines use this to look at web pages for words which are related in some manner to ranked keyphrases.

I believe LSI keywords are keywords related to the main keyword you're targeting. For example,if "dog training" was the keyword you were targeting,"dog training tips" would be an LSI keyword you would want to fit into your content as well.

You're on the right track, but it's more than just using keyword variants.

As LSI analysis gets more sophisticated, it goes way beyond just recognizing related keywords. Within any subject matter, there's a vocabulary that gets used, and the more a given piece of content uses the common vocabulary (built up from analyzing millions of pieces of content over time), the more authoritative and relevant it is deemed to be.

In a way, it's kind of like listening to a live speaker. Many times you can tell whether or not the speaker knows his/her stuff just by the words they use and the way they use them.

Yeah, I just wanna point out that the same goes for "gurus", writers, bloggers, and forum posters.

LSI is related keywords from your main keyword.

    Example!

Let's say your main keyword is online marketing training.

Then LSI keywords are; marketing, online training, training, online marketing success, online marketing coaching.

Latent semantic indexing (LSI) is an indexing and retrieval method that uses a mathematical technique called singular value decomposition (SVD) to identify patterns in the relationships between the terms and concepts contained in an unstructured collection of text.
