I have a quick question ...

If there isn't any unsubscribe link in the emails, can he be reported to the FTC?

Seems to me it will be worth shutting him down this way.

Or would that be more suicidal or detrimental for my business in the long run?

I'm not sure how it could be detrimental to you... unless you think you're going to have to fork out legal costs - not sure that you do.

Problem is, they're coming from different email accounts each time (or they seem to be) so pinning them down is going to be hard.

You can get set up with a new host in under an hour, and change nameservers just as easy - so even if they were shut down, it would only be temporary.

Unless someone knows something I don't... feel free to chime in anyone.

All I did (as you've seen posted) was make it absolutely clear that I will not accept further contact and that further action would be sought. It did the trick.

Have you missed me? No/Yes (delete as applicable) ;)

Karl,

The reason I said something about it being detrimental to my business is because I know some marketers find stuff out like this and make your world a living hades after you report someone.

Guess if he keeps going like he is though, he won't have any friends left to help him do something like that.

Btw, I wrote 3 xs to Pat telling him to remove me from all lists, and never got an answer.

You must be one of the special ones lol.

I wanted to post again to apologize and hopefully clear up some of the questions.

I have cleared the auto responder so there will be no more bulk messages. I apologize for the upset my actions have caused. In my excitement, I made a decision that was wrong.

Henry Gold is my teacher, and he is helping me with the Anti-Giveaway and I apologize to him
too for how my mistake reflects on him. Unaware of my emails, Henry Gold is also promoting
the Anti-Giveaway by individually contacting people he believes will be interested in participating.

We are in the pre-launch phase and want to get our message out to as many marketers as possible
before the official launch as we know that this will be the biggest launch for me as Henry is trying to help me to get an extra 30,000 potential buyers (not just freebie seekers) in 30 days.

I know Paul Myers, Karl, Jason, Richard, Karl Warren, Paul Duxbury, Jeffrey, John Taylor, John Hillage, Martin, Stanley, Justin, mmurtha, ExRat, SunTzu82, Becky, richt197, Mark McWilliams, Janet, Glenn and everybody who is upset with me will understand that a small guy like me needs your forgiveness as you guys are well-known marketers in the Internet marketing niche and I am still learning the ropes. If you need any help with your promotion in the future, please do let me know. I am not looking for enemies, but friendships. I know for sure that this is what this community is all about.

Thank you and again I do apologize for my dumb action.

"Pat,"

No, I don't understand. And, until I actually get to where I believe you, I'm not prepared to be especially forgiving.

You see, Henry's emails, as quoted here, seem to be following up with the folks who didn't complain loudly. It's pretty clear those folks didn't ask to be on his list, so he's still spamming.

And he's claiming it's "personal" email, so he's still lying.

To be honest, I don't believe for one minute that you're not Henry.

You didn't explain who it was that sent the email I got after having unsubscribed. You know... the third one with your name in the From field, despite you having claimed you only sent one? The one sent from a different server, and not using a list script?

Or why, you being such an "elite student" and all, your domain (murraysecrets.com) is registered to Henry Gold.

Or how, since the thing doesn't even allegedly launch until Friday, you have detailed conversion rates you're sharing with prospective "partners."

Lies, damned lies, and statistics. Twain would be proud.

So, "Pat," what's the real story?

Plus the fact that when I replied to HENRY'S email, I got a reply from YOU.

I might be slightly more forgiving than Paul, but you've got a lot of explaining to do...

Just be honest - if you've made a mistake - which is a pretty big one... you've got nothing to lose by coming clean.

It might be easier to be "forgiving" if I wasn't continuing to receive emails as little as an hour ago - despite having written to Henry Gold asking to be removed from the lists two days ago

Karl,

It's possible this is just an absurdly mishandled mistake. If that's the case, I can't see any reason Henry wouldn't be here explaining it.

If even a small part of what I suspect is accurate, there's no way we'll hear the truth from Henry or "Pat."

I just got around to reading this thread, but have deleted quite a few emails from the "two-headed" marketer over the past few days. Is it just me or does the "oh, shucks, I'm just a poor little beginner trying to build a list of 30,000 by spamming emails I've scraped from the Internet" crap just piss you off even more?

Lyndon Johnson was once quoted as saying "Whenever someone tells me 'I'm just a simple country boy' I put my hand on my wallet."

I suspect you kept getting it and I didn't because Henry knows my email address. That may not be correct, though, as there'd need to be real boneheadedness on the other end to miss the ones for whom they have full names in both the database and the WF complaint posts.

As to why you keep getting them... Spammers aren't generally the brightest lights in the chandelier. There are exceptions, but Henry doesn't seem to want to be one of them at the moment.

John T,

Yup! I ended up doing the same thing. Perhaps that will give them some motivation for removing all of us from their lists.

According to his site, www.make1million.com , "Henry Gold has even spent $250,000 on lessons in the last six years to enable him to tell you the real truth about Intenet marketing."

Well it doesn't look like this twit or his affiliates are getting a clue.
I'm now getting bombarded by emails which are leading
to the murraysecret domain via an amember affiliate link.

I notice there are a few warriors that gave testimonials on that page.
I wonder if they know they are promoting a spammer?

Les,

Well I guess I finally made enough stink for him to remove me from the lists!

It wouldn't surprise me any if those testomonials are fake (swiped from someone else's site and doctored) from the way he/they've done business so far.

I can't image Mike F giving himn a testimonial, but then again I could be wrong.

I asked Mike about that. It's real.

That's an hell of an example for folks who don't know how this stuff works. You do something this screwy, lie about it, and everything you ever do is questioned. Even the stuff you didn't do wrong.

It's completely normal. And a nasty way to have people thinking of you and your business.

The whole thing could have been avoided by responding to the same mistake by just not repeating it. Lying is what made it bad, not the original screw-up.

I thought I was in the clear on this fiasco, since I don't ever use my
primary email when signing up for Giveaways.

Yesterday I received the email in question, and the un-subscribe link didn't work,
it just went to an Internal Server Error. I'm surprised I received it in the first
place, since I had just recently unsubscribed because of Socrates' annoying
emails.

I thought I had already un-subscribed after "Socrates" took over one of his lists
because Henry was "Retiring"

It's a shame, I spoke with Henry Gold a few times on the phone back in 2003 - 2004,
before he ran any of these giveaways, and he seemed like an honest guy, not sure
what transpired recently, but from all the evidence you guys have shown here,
I'm 99% sure that Pat & Henry are the same person, which is a real shame for Henry.

You can tell by the language the replies are written alone, and the headers that
Paul showed here which had returned paths to 117Christmasgifts.com
Quote:
Return-Path: <bounce@117christmasgifts.com>
Received: from mail.117network.com (117network.com [75.125.199.98])
If these emails were harvested and obtained through legit sources,
then why is the return path 117christmasgifts.com & 117network.com ?

Anyway, Henry, if you're reading this, it's best to come clean, because things
just seem to be getting worse for ya, and no one here believes Pat even exists,
and it seems to be a made up Pen name, otherwise, why would his Domains
be registered to you?

If he's a top student of yours, he's sure not doing a very good job following
simple directions, which reflect on your teachings unfortunately.

This student or pen name of yours need to be fired.

Plus, why would he be using your lists in order to get JV partners, unless
you yourself are mailing for him?

Last but not least, are you really retiring? Or have you already retired?

I was on your list with my primary email address to keep up on the stuff
you were doing, but ever since Socrates took over, I immediately unsubscribed,
since all he did was send out endless pitches for PLR stuff, after taking
over your lists.

Too much just doesn't add up with this story unfortunately.

Honestly, my feeling is that there was never any intention of removing folks from the lists unless they really raised a stink. I think Henry (or whoever it is) intended/intends to continue on just as before and sees this limited reaction as a simple cost of doing business.

More than likely, most people won't even question why they are on that list and once they try to unsuccessfully unsubscribe, they will just trash the emails or keep on unwillingly receiving them. You'd be surprised how many folks aren't savvy enough to know how to effectively respond to this sort of thing.

Shame that people are this underhanded, but there it is. Reason and appeals to conscience are most probably wasted effort.

Paul,

Glad to hear you say that. It cleared that up quickly for me.

Btw, ou are absolutely correct in saying the original mistake wasn't why I questioned the testimonials. It was definately the lying and further actions, especially after admiting the boo boo!

I think your use of the term "nasty" is being quite kind. The truth is such actions can keep a person from ever succeeding in any business on the net.

The one place where that's definitely not true is in the intro/newbie market. Folks who are just starting and don't follow the boards or get any of this kind of news. That is, by my guess, a significant majority of the people interested in the topic.

One wonders if Henry thinks everyone here will simply forget this, rather than bringing the entire thread back to the front of the forum every time he does something?

Curiouser and curiouser.

That's true to a certain extent I would think. BUt I was thinking along the lines of seasoned marketers putting out the word, testimoinals, real JVs with experienced marketers, etc ...

Yeah, I'm curious too ...

The subject is still fresh, so I imagine the thread will be popping up to the top for a little while.

But he should be smart enough to know by now that things like this aren't easily swept under the rug. Experienced people have memories like elephants when the occasion is right.

All the best ...

Mary,

I'm getting the feeling that Henry's pretty desperate at this point. I'm not sure he's looking to the future as much as trying to make this one work.

Anyone have the link for this give-away? It's not at MurraySecret.com. That's just a sneaky squeeze page.

Or is it...?

"Interesting" process. Promises the visitor a 45-page report for signing up. Once they confirm, they get the "give us your passwords so we can invite everyone in your addressbook" page. (Also called the "Spam-a-Friend" script.)

An excellent way to get your site blacklisted, by the way.

The "No way in hell" link is in tiny print at the bottom. The next page is a salesletter for a $97 product. 55 pages long, pasted into Word.

Some useful info in it for newbies, I suppose, but better than 60% is pure sales copy. I'm betting that a LOT of people think that's the report.

Probably works well enough, but it's sneaky as hell, in my opinion. And I wonder how many people realize that giving out the passwords to their webmail and other accounts is almost always a violation of the terms of service for those providers?

Go far enough down, and you see the last step to create your account. Skip the OTO, and you get to download the report.

Downloading... Opening...

Oh, wait. It IS the salesletter! How cute.

The membership section includes an offer to become an affiliate, another offer to tell your friends, yet another link to the salesletter (without the informational stuff), and finally, in step 5, the link to...

Download Our Partners Products

Hey, look! It IS the give-away site!

No mention of that on the squeeze page. I don't recall seeing it in the salesletter, either, but I didn't read all 55 pages. It's definitely not mentioned in the welcome email. Not a word.

I wonder how well that's going to work for his "partners?"

I wonder how many of them looked at the process before agreeing to the "give-away."

Oh. Wait.

The page they were sent to didn't actually describe the process.

It's well named, at any rate. They're "giving away" their products and their subscriber lists for nothing.

After seeing that process, I need a shower.

Dang Paul,

I am so glad you went thru the gauntlet instead of me. I would've gotten disgusted going to the next step after submitting my name and email addy.

This is exactly why people don't care for giveaways anymore. At least the ones with this type of setup.

The partners get nothing, and are basically being taken.

Lol it reminds me of those pyramid schemes where the owner gets 99% of the benefits while everyone else works their fingers to the bone, and keep investing.

He is desperate. He's always been that way with whatever he is promoting at the time. The thing now is, he's teaching other people to be just like him.

I hope everyone that reads this thread will get the hint to stay far far away from this dude.

I gave him a pseudonym and an address at one of my spamtest domains. I use those to check on processes when I suspect something less than "clean" about an offer.

I try not to even form opinions on things without some facts, and this was the best way to get them. It will make for an interesting potential article.

It's a fascinating process to watch though - it's not often you get to see someone moderately famous self-destruct so publicly, is it?

Yeah, I got a zillion of those too.

Hmm - I think I have the impressions that Gold was one of those who started the trend of devaluing individual resale products by bundling together gigantic packagages like his http://www.resale-rights-solution.com- NOT a link - though if you skim through that site you'll mostly see some unfamiliar graphics on some very familiar old products including some where he's got his name plastered over some products I hadn't thought could be private-labeled. He could have made a special deal of course, and since the sales copy doesn't say anything I suppose technically he's only claiming that the updated graphics are his. But it sure looks odd...

Oh man, so sorry you are getting hit that hard.

That could be one of their main problems lately, but I think the real biggie was the original emails that were sent directly.

Hey Melkor,

Every now and then you will see people shot themselves i the foot in this forum, so it does happen. We just have a tendency to flush them out.

To be fair about it, he wasn't one of the first to do stuff like that. I remember when bundling resale rights products together to create big packages was common place. Then came Fire sales, and other fancy names for them.

The number of people on the Warrior Forun who have good hearts is more thatn I have ever seen anywhere at anytime assembled into one place, especially a place that deals win internet marketing.

If I had to guess, which I don't have to but I am going to anyway, it would seem to be that someone who would set up a campaign like his in the first place, using who knows how many misdirections and spoof tactics, what would they care in the first place what anyone else thought of them? And if their purpose was their own personal aggrandizement, what difference would it make to them if someone finds their misdirections.

Sorry, I knew I forgot something. I have found it to be in my best interests to never unsubscribe from a spam email list. I found out (the hard way) that what I had really done was confirm that my email address was valid and therefore ready to be spammed. Now I just set up a filter and auto delete, or redirect like John T suggested. That has made my life ever so much easier.

The list of 1,000 potential affiliates was a time consuming job over a period of 3 plus weeks of intensive labor day and into late nights manually compiling the list.

...and then put them into the excel sheet?

So when you say 'clickbank testimonials', you mean that you found the whois email from the website url that was provided by the person giving the testimonial?

>As far as the clickbank testimonials, I went to the site listed in the testimonial and Manually found the >information.

Thanks.
That's interesting, because the email address you mailed me at would not have been found by any of these means.

Did you also mail Henry's database from 117ChristmasGifts or something? (But then I would have expected an unsubscribe link)

BTW I looked at your "JV page" and there were a lot of mistakes and incongruencies that made it really confusing as to how the process works and what sites are involved exactly. You might want to edit that better before sending it to so many people who don't yet know, like or trust you... or even before sending it to people who DO know, like and trust you.

cheers
Heather

I submitted a ticket to "murray secret dot com" support which I've

But after reading this thread, now I know it's a bunch of crap.

It's sad that people feel they have to stoop to this level to make a buck.

What a joke. Henry used to be a respectable marketer too, but he totally fell off.

Ever since is Super Gifts Giveaway FLOPPED. Now he has to go to these measures.

Oh and Heather Vale, I can't wait for the opportunity to be "unwrapped" by you :P HAHAHAHAHA

In an attempt to clear the air, I uploaded my picture and added details to my profile.

As you can see by my picture, I am Not Henry Gold. I would like to ask Jason
James to look at my picture. Do I look like Henry?

As I said before, the mailing being discussed here was totally my fault.

I have been accused of finding information in an underhanded manner. I worked my
tail off for nearly 3+ weeks in July searching the internet for the contact information.

All of the information I carefully gathered is readily available to anyone. I worked
very hard and diligently to find it. I did not buy a list. I did not do anything dishonest.

I again humbly ask everyone to realize I made a mistake.

Thanks,

Pat

How do I get my Camtasia video to show up on my web site?
How do I place it exactly where I want it on my web site?
