It's About Time I Reminded You.

YOU CAN BE SUCCESSFUL ONLINE NOW!

That's right.

If you're new here and you're wondering if everyone is full of BS or you've been around a while and seen so much conflicting information that you're thinking maybe it's all BS.

I want to remind you that whatever you hear from anyone else (here or anywhere), the only thing that really matters is what is important to YOU and what works for YOU.

There is no 'right' way to do anything (there are LOTS of right ways), and there's no real wrong way either.

The most important thing is that you get started doing something you're interested in and passionate about.

Many people will tell you to find a Clickbank product to promote and then write articles to get traffic - can you really get excited about that? and you can honestly believe that you know the outcome of the work you put in?

There are ways to know before you start that you can make money - but in my opinion (take it or leave it), you're not going to see great success at anything unless you can get excited and inspired by it.

Many IMers are all about the money and will spend a LOT of their time doing things they have no interest in just because someone else said it worked for them.

The reality is - your life is valuable, your time is valuable. Everytime you say yes to writing an article, or spending time at the forum - you're saying no to time with your friends/family or doing a different activity.

You need to be able to tell that your time is being spent effectively - otherwise you'll end up like many IMers - a couple of years down the line with a hard drive full of stuff and no income.

Respect your time and value it.

There's no such thing as a good reason not to start now.

You don't need ANYTHING to get started.

If you have something that interests you and you're passionate about, that you know others are too, and you can honestly see that people are and will buy things related to it - then you're ready to start.

If you manage to kid yourself that you know nothing and aren't interested in anything - then find a friend or relative that has an interest that you would like to tap into.

I'm not going to go into all the options this opens up - but it's A LOT!

If you're a complete newbie and technophobe, then go to Blogger and get started by opening a blog (it's REALLY simple and quick), then just spend some time browsing the internet seeing where people with your interest hang out, what their problems are, what things people are selling and buying, and what information and articles are already available.

You'll be surprised how many hot niches that are competitive lack a good resource where everything is in one place.

Many people rush to make money in a new niche and throw ads all over their pages, so their visitors quickly go somewhere else where the same information is more clearly laid out and easier to read.

You can quickly become a valuable resource in any niche just by having a clear and comprehensive offering of where people can get directly to the information they're looking for without a thousands MFA (Made For Adsense) sites in their way.

It really doesn't take a lot to get started.

I spoke to a friend yesterday about this and he was saying "but I don't know anything about the internet or making money" - I asked him about his hobbies and the first one he picked, advertisers are paying $5 - $7 a click on Google and products are selling every day on Ebay for thousands of dollars, and he had a personal complaint that there were no decent websites around - he could go from nothing to success over night.

Whatever your level of experience, technical knowledge etc. You don't need anything more to get started.

If you want to see what people are buying - check Ebay Pulse - that's a buyers market. The search engine keyword stuff is all well and good but it's easy to get distracted chasing keywords that never turn into customers. Just focus on real people and helping solve a real problem and you can't go wrong.

There are plenty of knowledgeable people at this forum and you can always get a good answer to almost any question.

Don't treat this forum like somewhere to milk for information or money - just treat like somewhere you can learn and share, and you'll find the good people that are on your wavelength.

If you think this forum is 'harsh' or the people are 'nasty' - forget it - the forum is whatever you make it. If you post a question and no-one answers, don't spit your dummy out, just use the search tool and see if it's been discussed before. If not, maybe you just posted at the wrong time of day and no-one really noticed it. It's not personal.

I've shared at least 100 different ways to make money in this forum over the years and I've seen a lot of good information posted by other warriors too. There's no excuse for not having enough information to get started.

If you don't know who to listen to - just pay attention for a while and see who you resonate with. There are many warriors here who I've had disagreements with in the past and we happily disagree now - but I know I can turn to them if I genuinely need help or advice.

There ARE people here who can become your friends, JV partners, customers - maybe even your spouse, who knows.

Whereever you are in your online journey - decide that NOW is the time you will stop worrying and start doing.

Just give yourself small goals to start with - 1 new blog post a day and find 1 new website in your niche.

If you want to get clever and connect your blog to your twitter account and have it auto-bookmarked, that's fine - lots of people here know how to do it, but don't let it stop you doing your goal for the day.

If all you do is add one blog post a day and get a few links each weekend - after a year you'll have a pretty comprehensive site and enough links to beat a lot of competition.

If you get bored quickly, maybe you just want to build a blog and fill it with unique and useful content, get a few links and then sell it. You can sell a site for between 6 and 12 times it's monthly revenue, or whatever someone else is willing to pay for it.

Once you get started the momentum will mean you do more and as you do more, it gets easier and you become more efficient - and new opportunities come up to support you and you start working with other people.

Many people will do things for you without monetary payment - you can swap skills or offer other value (links on your site, commissions on sales etc.)

ANYONE can make money online right now - it's the best time ever. There are more people buying things online than EVER before.

Just because the economy is down the drain right now that doesn't mean you can't make money - in fact, it's even more of a reason to do it.

Don't sit around worrying about your job when you could be replacing its revenue doing something you enjoy online.

You get to choose your topic, choose how much you do, choose when you do it, who you work with - and don't work with.

Don't deny yourself the freedom that having a little discipline can give you.

This forum is the best resource you could hope for and it's never been as full of great people and information as it is right NOW.

So - just get started.

Andy

I've been a member here for quite some time now and I must compliment you on this post; it's the best post I've read to date!

You have managed to answer lots of questions in a simply understood way.

I agree 100% with everything you say, just couldn't have articulated it so concisely.

    Thanks for a good read!

Folks, that is some damn good advice.

IMO, too many people get hung up on making money online as meaning you
have to sell "how to make money" products or stupid membership sites where
you get $10 for every member who signs up under you.

Go walk around your house. I'm serious. Go walk around and look at all the
junk you've bought over the years and then go to Google and see how much
of that stuff you can actually buy online that has a good affiliate program
    tied to it.

Amazon is an absolute gold mine for products that you can get paid for
selling...products that people buy by the bucket full. Sure, the starting
commission is around 4% but some of the products sell for thousands of
    dollars.

Go take a look at jewelry. I've found items that I'd need to mortgage my
house to afford. And YES...there is a market for these items. Just go look
at how many searches there are for them and you'll see.

The world itself runs because people need and want things.

    Think about it.

What in your house have you gotten for free?

    My stereo
    My recording studio
    My TV
    My computer
    My microwave
    My furniture
    My video games
    My DVDs
    My CDs
    My clocks
    My car
    My BBQ set
    My lawn mower
    My food
    My magazines

And that's just the tip of my iceberg. Many of these things have affiliate
programs or some kind of CPA attached to it.

There are more ways to make money online than Carter has liver pills. If
you can't honestly find something that you're interested in that has a
decent sized buyer's market then you need to come out of your cave
    from time to time.

Andy is dead 100% on target with his post.

Stop making this whole thing so damn complicated.

    People need stuff.

To get it, somebody has to sell it.

Find the market...find the product...sell it.

    It's THAT simple.

Found out where the people hang out online who needed 'em, sold to them, and now their all gone!

    Very good advice.

Persistence is key. When starting out, I always advice to keep it simple. Set a goal you can easily accomplish and reward yourself when you finish the task. This will create a positive feedback loop that will keep you going. Only start to read more when you have become experienced with the basics. One of the biggest pitfalls is over analyzing and not daring to take the first step!

I shared these on my blog today but this thread is probably a good place to share them with warriors.

A multi-millionaire friend of mine layed out these rules which I wanted to share with you:

These are not MY rules and they're not something I read in a book, they're the rules my friend has become a multi-multi-millionaire from living by.

1 - Do The Right Thing.
Never take the easy way out. Character is doing the right thing even when no-one is looking.

    2 - Act Quickly.
When problem solving, early action is better than analyzing the situation to death.

    3 - Fail Fast.
"Fail Fast" and change your course quickly in light of new data.

    4 - Customers First.
Customers, and the needs of the people who serve them, always come first.

    5 - Everyone Sells.
Participate in the selling process directly or indirectly, and establish relationships with customers and those who interact with them.

    6 - Make Informed Decisions.
Listen to the 'experts' but then don't be afraid to make your own decisions.

    7 - Be Flexible.
Be willing to dive into the deep end.

    8 - Hold Yourself Accountable.
Hold yourself accountable for your actions.

    9 - Know The Business.
Know the details of your business inside and out.

    10 - Develop A Plan
Do not wait for someone else to tell you what to do.

    11 - Ready Doesn't Mean Done.
Follow your actions through to the end.
As you can see, these are pretty much common sense tips, but common sense is rare these days and many businesses struggle due to the lack of some simple systems or actions.

Andy - thanks for this thread. Right on the money again.

I like this line from your most recent post - very pertinent advice for all IMs, especially newbies.

It's so easy to get bogged down reading a dozen different pieces of advice to do the same thing. Which one do you do? Which way is the right way? What is everybody else doing?

There always comes a time that you have to make your own decisions and do what's right for YOU and YOUR business.

I look forward to your next post, Andy.

      All the best.

      Steve.

        Thanks for the great feedback.

I don't actually like posting from a "here's what I think you should do" perspective as I really think that people have their own best answers and when they look to others to get their picture of what they should do, they end up living other peoples lives and not the best one for them.

When it comes to IM there are so many elements and strategies that you can build your model to suit your own preferences and experience, so the best answer is the one that you build based on your own goals.

Hopefully some of the general success tips apply to enough people to be useful and are based on model what's worked for others.

I love that line. I've got a feeling that tomorrow morning during the usual hour spent repeatedly battling through my teenage daughter's bombsite of a room trying to get her out of bed, at some point it's going to fall on her ears. I could use hearing it myself in some instances too - definitely sticky-note-on-the-monitor-worthy.

    Awesome post.

And that is why they say successful people are those that finds solutions to problems.

People HAVE problems. Or wants. Or Needs.

And you simply have to offer them the solution, service or product to satsify them.

    That is the theory.

However, I do believe that is on a very basic strategy level. Most people are afraid of the 'tactical' side of the internet.

Internet marketing - How do you actually make people want to buy your stuff? How do you even make them find your virtual real estate in the first place to read your copy?

    These aren't THAT simple anymore..

There are two things I would say to that:

1 - It's not always a great idea to try and 'make people want to buy' your stuff.

It's a common problem newcomers to IM face - people tell them to find a product to sell and they run around trying to find people to 'sell' to.

In reality - there are enough people desperate for something that you just need to be the person who shows them it and they'll buy.

When you go to the supermarket - you don't need someone to sell you the cereal. You want it and you go and buy it.

Online - that just involves understanding what people are looking to do that for and then....

2 - Get traffic to your stuff.

Many people think that getting ANY traffic is the goal and they focus on how many visitors did they get and what is their conversion rate.

You can make this difficult or easy.

If you target the traffic that is looking for your product - you'll make sales.

If you just do any old thing that someone told you will get you a link, you can end up getting decent traffic - but no sales.

The simple truth is - if you focus on the people you're trying to help and what they want/need, you can focus your attention on helping those people find your solution - any other people are not your target.

When you focus like this - there are hundreds of different ways to help them find your stuff and you can cherry pick the methods that fit your niche the best.

We've talked traffic generation to death here many times - there should be no Warrior who doesn't know how to get traffic.
