    While I've never done any traffic generation for that sort of website, a good option would be to advertise on other sites where the kind of people who like those gadgets hang out.

    So if you're selling gadgets for hikers (just an example), you'll want to find websites where you know hikers spend time on, and then contact the website owner and pay for banner advertising.

    To do this right, you need to really know your target audience (which you should know anyway).

    Well i know for certain that alot of them use:

    - SEO (mainly the top 3)

    - Sites like Yahoo Shopping and PriceGrabber

    - Ebay

    - Backend selling to current customers

    - Google Places

    - Amazon

    - Pay per click advertising

    - Their own affiliate program

    - DMOZ and Yahoo Directory listings

    2. Plop a website into SW search.
    3. Examine traffic sources.

    And you can obviously use that to explore traffic sources for any type of niche or market.
