Parrots and niches...

Bobby (my other half) wants a parrot, God knows why, but he's been doing some research online about them.

I came across this site (via google adwords) Parrot Training 101 (and Bobby signed up to watch the vids), but it struck me how this type of thing must be a very lucrative niche.

I can never understand why people just coming online want to go into the vastly overcrowded make money online types of niches when there are so many different varieties out there

What are your thoughts

    Kim,

People don't think outside the box, that's the problem. They read somewhere "thisguy made a killing with adsense" and they want to copycat him. They buy his sheeet and they get screwed. Even if you tell them this is a great niche, they'll don't understand.

Anyway, cool niche, people love pets.

This is an example of those niches people often overlook and yet there would
be a lot of demand for them.
He's looking for a hand reared one so the search continues

Thinking outside the box again, there are all sorts of bird fanciers out there, you could really narrow the niche down.

lol he's moaning now cos he says I'm always wanting to monetise everything

    You are right Kim,

There should even be a niche for "retraining" Parrots.

When I was a kid I worked at a market and a man came in and asked me if I wanted a Parrot. The parrots name was Sam and he only spoke Spanish.

Well, I took him home and Sam taught me and my little brother Spanish, Of course we didn't know what we were saying because Sam didn't translate.

One day a Spanish speaking friend of my Mom came over and Sam started talking to her. She turned red and exclaimed, "Your parrot just called me some very bad names!"

Parrot retraining niche, very good. Sam, very bad.

Exactly...My aunt had one that I swear was part pit bull. She was the only one that could get within 6 feet of the cage. I will say he was very intelligent.

BTW, the late Steve Irwin was asked if he was afraid on any animals and he said "parrots". The guy wrestled 20ft crocs, but was afraid of parrots...And for good reason based on my experiences with my Aunt's African grey.

    Did you say parrots?

Here's a blog post I wrote about the fellow in my avatar a while back: What It's Like to Have a Blue & Gold Macaw as a Pet

I've done some work in pet niches, both as ebooks and eBay/EPN, and I found them to be poor to mediocre performers for the most part. Most of the pet authority sites I know of seem to either depend on donations or a connection to a large pet supply retailer.

I'm in the pet niche and yes, it's huge. Spending on pets actually increased by over $2 Billion in the last year even with the economic downturn. The pet industry is valued at somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 Billion in the U.S.

It's funny, when we owned quaker parrots 3-4 years ago I had started a blog called Parrothoood. I had even made some adsense (just a little bit) and gotten some amazon clicks. I had hardly done anything, and then I just let the blog go. I wish I would have known then what I know now about internet marketing. Now there are several websites out there with the same name of that blog I had, probably making good money.

I was just thinking about this last night. Funny you mentioned it.

Isn't parrot training the very niche that Frank Kern first made his name (and fortune) in?

I don't know about Kern but there is a marketer who has done VERY well with an ebook about teaching your parrot to talk.

The secret is that it's very easy to get them to talk. The real trick is in getting them to stop.

I agree! "How to stop your parrot from screaming" might be a viable product. Many, many parrots are "rehomed" on Craigslist because they're too noisy.

    Great post.

How can mere mortals compete with seasoned Internet Marketers in the very competitive Internet Marketing Niche?

This thread makes me wish I knew the first thing about parrot training, lol. Coincidentally, the other day I did see a man with a huge (and beautiful!) parrot on his shoulder. The guy was walking on a busy street, no less. I'm amazed the parrot didn't fly away.

I have a website on page #1 google UK for keywords like "parrot training" & "parrot biting" etc.. I targetted the keywords to solve a problem with parrots.

So far I have failed to monetize it as the affiliate pages want people to jump through too many hoops before they get to an offer.

I have sent over 400 hops from my review page and not a single sale.

I got a couple hundred people on my autoresponder (only setup a couple months ago), I am buying up some PLR now to offer a $7 ebook package as the main offer until a better affiliate sales page is available.

The content on there is just outsourced articles to a guy here on the forum. The main work has been the SEO to get it ranked and traffic coming in.

I plan on doing a complete revamp by hand now to turn it into a PLR membership site.

If anyone wants to get into this niche then you can make me an offer for the site, just send me a PM. In all honesty I do not even have a parrot, nor do I know anyone who has a parrot.

Or perhaps if you have a parrot and want to write articles/sales text on a profit share then this could also be a good arrangement. Just let me know.

    Kim,

I'm so glad your back in here stirring the pot. I think I'll parrot a niche or 2. But somebody please keep Big Mike out of it. He looks like a Big Green Greek Parrot, but his screech is worse than his peck.

Speaking of pecks I think I will peck my way out of here.

After reading some of the replies on here, I think I'm going to try and pursuade him to go in for a budgie instead, I didn't realise parrots could be so vicious.

Mind you he's also talking about getting a Harley Davidson bike as well, I'm sure he's going thru the male menopause (bless him)

My wife has a Patagonian Conure.
Hes mostly green with some red, orange, and white underneath and different colors on his wing tips.
Doesnt talk a lot,but is voistrus and noisy
One of the fist things he did was mimick us about cats.
He would see our chows waliking into the room and would go:
    meow,meow,here kitty kitty.
The dogs had the best look on there face when they looked at our bird in the cage.
Maybe they thought the bird ate the cat.
Anyway, our bird is hand trained and its really not that hard to do.We had ours from birth though.
Ours is kinda friendly.just have to have a positive attitude and non trembling hands.
But he has bitten a few people, just a warning bite,no blood.
I did buy 2 books and was thinking about setting up a blog for my wife that we could experiment on.
